This was announced just after the coin toss ( 15 mins before game time)

That just makes no sense, fans would in reality still be on their way in at that time so how the hell do we know how many are there?

What about something like:

It looks like there are not many empty seats today and { insert home team}
1. Will be hoping the fans turn out in large numbers on this sunny day.
2. Praying that the hot conditions will not make the beach a more attractive option today
2. Other comments to reflect the weather affecting the turn out.


Perhaps then in at the drinks break the attendance numbers could be included.

I always believed that the official attendance figures were collated about 15 mins before the start in order to announce the numbers as the match starts. The unofficial number is usually higher as some turn up as it starts and shortly after and are not included.
At least i'm sure thats what they used to do with the live footy broadcasts.

We could come up with a random % of the final total and announce that at the start before giving the final figure at drinks or change of inns etc

I guess the technical term could be tickets sold, instead of ground attendance. The club still gets their $$ even if the ticketholder doesn't turn up to the game, simply buying one is good enough
