Handedness in summaries

Postby impirion » Wed Jul 28, 2010 5:18 pm

I think that putting whether the player is a Left hand bat or right hand Bat in the grid summary view, both in team view and in the team selection view would be useful. What do others think?

Not a bad idea. I just dont think we have the room on the page.

Some ppl's screen are wide. I can fit about twice of what's already on it - not that i have my firefox that stretched out. I suggest a checkbox or some sort in the preferences that allows us to choose what to go on the summary page =D

some people's screens are small too

it is quite difficult to design a site that can 'intelligently' take advantage of extra screen real estate. this is why the vast majority of sites are fixed width.

It wouldn't be that demanding though surely, just one more column, and it would only be 3 characters wide, LHB or RHB. I think the need to scroll a little across would be made up for by that. In any case, one can always zoom out slightly to make the screen fit.

In addition, in the player selection screen, for the bowlers there's already BT while there's no equivalent for the batting screen, so surely there is room there.

That's a far more relevent point. It walso has batting, so surely there's enough space int here Ash. I'd find it very useful. It only needs to be a single character, L or R, HB is a waste of space.

pages have a fixed max width. if we exceed that, the info bleeds off the page, so to speak, and it looks pretty ugly.

we need to cater for the situation in which a player has, for example, accomplished skills across the board. that leaves us with pretty much no room.

I have to say, given the current size of the grids on my screen, it would have to be a very small screen not to be able to fit the page in. How small would you say the screen has to be for it to be a factor?

I have a laptop, so it's by no means a large screen, and I have about several inches either side of my screen which are grey, so increasing the page width I think would not be a problem except for maybe E-pcs or something, in which case most webpages don't fit on them anyway. Furthermore, in the team selection part, the bowling tab already has more columns than the batting, so surely that's not the constraint there.

The EeePC i have for uni is only about 7" diagonally, and thats probably being generous.

The thing i dont like about it is it would be harder to "Idiot Proof" without taking up lotsa room. Using only acronyms, is RHB/LHB right hand bat or bowl?

I prefer trips suggestion about making a checkbox system in preferances where you can turn on/off columns you dont want. Then, if you have text and info leaking off the side of the screen its your own stupid fault.

L/R HB always refers to batting. Bowling is done as R/L (hand) then type (FM/F/FS/WS etc)

Out of interest Sully, does it leak off your screen already, or does the grid fit?

I know, but for newbies, i bet we will get a question every week about RHB being bat/bowl. Also, the column headers would have to change from BT/BT. which would take up room.

I still stand behind trips idea, as it solves multiple problems/issues/pipe dreams.

leaks. something cronic. haha. Gotta scroll across to see anything past about Captaincy. Which is y id love to turn it off and have exp displayed.
