Ruff Royals won by 2 wickets

Ruff Royals Knockout Heroes
Batting - Top Order 13,264 14,182
Batting - Middle Order 11,908 9,324
Batting - Tail 5,054 3,668
Bowling - Seam 13,655 (30) 12,262 (30)
Bowling - Spin 13,662 (20) 13,129 (20)
Fielding/Keeping 17,089 15,503
Overall 235,413 214,588

That was closer than I liked and did not exactly boost our inferior net run rate.

The stars of the show were Combs with 4-27 and Bullock with 65.

Overall 238,485 250,515

won the toss and had a bat on windy/sticky. Was a pretty decent effort with the bat as we got up to 176/10 in tricky conditions, Kouyate as per usual top scoring with 47. In reply opps seemed firmly in control at 98-2, before a flurry of wickets saw them collapse to 114-7. A bit of lower order resistance had me worried for a while, but a run-out secured the win by 14 runs. A good result in an extremely tight league. Could well be a team going down with 6 wins this season, so need to try and keep this momentum going. NRR might also prove to be an important factor as well, so will need to bear that in mind ...

First win after 3 consecutive defeats. Played a slightly weaker teambut the main difference was that one of my batsmen actually turned up for work! Wambau making an unbeaten 98. Apart from my Wicket Keeper, Wambau is the only batsmen I have averaging over 30 this season in one-day, despite the opposition not exactly being stellar quality.

Batting - Tail 3,871 3,485

Fielding/Keeping 9,009 9,485
Overall 118,428 129,074

Staindrop Lordies won by 5 wickets

The ratings aren't great after Harrison was promoted to the senior squad but this is without Fattah who is away on international duty. We almost got a result as they only won off the last ball of the game.

I thought we might have got enough after being put in to bat first. We scored 166 with Marwat getting 82 not out from 52 balls and Galindo 64 from 46. However, or bowlers struggled and Staindrop Lordies were always close to the run rate required.

The good news is that other results went our way so we're still 4 points clear at the top. I don't expect that to last long.

J. Westerveld (rfs) 4-0-21-3, M. Bavuma 1 (1b), Z. Mvovo 20 (12b)
End of over 20 (6 runs) - Daniel's XI(143-6) RR 7.15

On a dry pitch, so it could have been better but it could have been worse. Up to the batters to do a good job now.

3-21 for Westerveld but the real star was Mills who scored 92 not out from 60 balls. I'm happy with the rating although they're probably slightly inflated by me playing a spin allrounder due to the dry pitch.

Dodged an ME screwing. Despite a 21k ratings advantage, and a much stronger spin bwoling attack on a Windy/Dry, only sneaked home by 9 runs.

E. Casperson (rfm) 8-0-33-3, M. Niazi 4 (11b), G. Pithey 9 (13b)
End of over 40 (2 runs) - Ruff Royals(130-9) RR 3.25

An awful batting performance on an uneven pitch. Galindo did alright with 53 but we lost 5 wickets in the first 4 overs and we were scoring at a snail's pace.

M. Niazi (lws) 2-0-6-0, T. Manou 11 (13b), S. Haggett 37 (54b)
End of over 16 (3 runs) - Snakey's Kent Stars(62-1). 69 runs required from 24 overs. RR 3.88 RRR 2.88

Only one wicket but I can't blame my bowlers when they've got such a low total to try to defend.

I'm looking forward to getting Fattah back. I'm also looking forward to my batters consistently doing a good job at batting but I think I might be waiting longer for that.

It's going to be tough for the rest of the season and it doesn't look like I got enough of a headstart when I actually had an allrounder. I think I'll be in the relegation zone by the end of the day.

I don't normally report on youth games (or that Mickey Mouse T20 nonsense :P ), but we've sort of blundered into second spot on equal points with the table leaders -

Youth 2.1
Team_______________________Points____________NRR
Leyland Lions ___________________28_____________+0.5746
The Raging Speed Horns___________28_____________+0.4386

I think I mentioned somewhere up the thread that the youth pulls had hit a barren patch, and that has continued to be the case, with week after week of $500 numpties. At the moment I don't even have a fifth bowler, although one of my batsmen with ordinary bowling skill has been plugging the gap quite respectably; with 144 balls under his belt (oo-er missus) he's picked up a couple of wickets at 40 apiece, but more importantly, kept the economy rate at 3.33.

We're playing the top team next week, so there's the outside sniff of a promotion opportunity here. Currently our match ratings have tanked to circa 112k, which puts us 6th in the pecking order, but with a little bit of luck and a cunning plan, we might swing it

Anyway, todays match was against the bottom placed team -

The Raging Speed Horns v YorkshireTykes
Result: The Raging Speed Horns won by 7 wickets

S. Claessen (rf) 10-0-57-2, M. Schmidt 57 (42b), C. Rush 0 (2b)
End of over 50 (1 run) - Ruff Royals(305-8) RR 6.10

I'm very happy with that on a slow pitch. The only slight disappointment is that no-one went on to make a really big score with Bullock out for 68, Dickerson out for 63, and Schmidt left on 57 not out. It's a good sign that Bullock and Dickerson can get some good scores even if it's only against the lowest rating team in the league.

A big win to boost our net run rate would be most welcome.
