How to train this player and train in general

Postby Neiklot » Thu Jul 29, 2010 7:10 am

I think it would be interesting to hear the thoughts from other managers on how to train players. I have a feeling that we train quite differently.

The thread should be used to post players that you would like other managers training input on, and I hope it will turn into general discussions about training as well.

I will start 8)

I have this player who popped in batting today and I am wondering what kind of training to give him now. He has been on AR training for some time and his bowling should be 2-3 weeks away from spectacular.

William Matthews
23 years old | 48.687 rating | $ 8.700 wage

Left hand batsman | Left arm Medium

Talents Skilled (Bowling)
Nationality New Zealand
Form capable
Fatigue rested
Experience capable
Captaincy capable

Skills Summary
Batsman accomplished
Bowler outstanding
Keeper average
Allrounder expert

Batting reliable Endurance capable
Bowling outstanding Technique outstanding
Keeping ordinary Power average
Fielding capable

This is the training I was thinking of giving him for the next couple of seasons:
2 pops in batting (will probably take close to 2 seasons?).
1 pop in power (1-4 weeks).
1 pop in bowling (2-3 weeks).

My questions are:
- Should I train his fielding to accomplished instead of one of the batting pops? I aim for at least accomplished fielding for my players, but I guess ARs are a special breed where this might not be possible.

- Should I train his power higher than reasonable?

I would be very interested in hearing what you guys think!

The word "Endurance" appeared only once in your post !

May be you need to consider that ! I rate Endurance higher than Fielding ;)

That is a good point, actually. I just hate training fitness :) But I guess I could train a bit of strength to help his endurance as well (endurance is not too far from a pop to reliable, I think).

well according to me

1.Power 2 pops
2.Endurance 2 pops
3.Field 1 pop

then again bowling or bat
this player really need to concentrate on secondaries.

With his skilled bowling, he is like exceptional bowler so need to get tech to close in. 2 pure batting pops should take 27-28 weeks approx, which is like 2 seasons anyway.

Power pop will take 5-6 weeks. Fielding for 25+ will take 6+ weeks.

For me ARs, definitely need expert endurance and accom power to be effective with both bat and bowl. But concentrate on endo/strength after he turns 25.

Thank you guys. I think I will stick him on bat for a couple og pops with maybe a power pop in between. Then power and endu.

I have a plan to get all players (except the young ones with primary lower than outstanding) to at least accomplished fielding beginning of next season, but I guess I can make an exception with Mathews. He will be laughed at at practice when all the other players can catch a bullit blindfolded while sipping dry Martini while he cannot even catch a looping slow one. :think

I would get his fielding to reasonable. Then batting to outstanding and back to fielding again. Might slip in a power pop, but not until he turns 24 yo.

I would get his fielding to reasonable. Then power to reasonable. If his endurance is still only reasonable I would then pop this to capable before going back to alternating between field and strength. When field and power is both reliable I might give him another batting pop.
