Cricket Discussion continued...

A place to discuss cricket, whether it be the golden duck you scored in 4th grade last weekend, or a discussion about international matches.

Decent innings by Denly and yes I agree he should be given a chance at the top but clearly he doesn't learn very quickly, out in his first Test innings to a horrific flatfooted swipe at a longhop and today exactly the samething, let's not forget though the many attempts today at getting out the sameway, clearly too lazy to move his backfoot

Yet still batted well enough until that dismissal, funny enough only Jennings was not at fault with the way he got out.

And Root is finally playing a good knock. It is good to see Buttler also finally getting into the runs and proving his worth, but with day 3 usually being the best day for batting it is hard to really gauge anything, plus West Indies is a frontline bowler short.

I am a little surprised to not see Campbell getting a bowl - he has a better FC average than Brathwaite and has bowled quite a bit more in that level...

Root is getting runs because this is now a dead rubber, pressures off and our batsmen can now try to bully the bowlers!

Although to be fair Buttler wasn't going to be able to play that ball that got him

Only interest in this Test now for me is if Wood can repeat that pace.

there's still 2 big men running in with a hard conker right now. It's not "easy" to get runs.

Credit to root and buttler they batted the situation well. Buttler could do nothing with that ball.

As I said it's a dead rubber and this Test is basically pointless, no use getting runs now as the series is lost! Time to get runs was in the first two Tests!

If they both got ducks you'd be on here saying how useless they are and how Root shouldn't be captain etc. Credit were it's due. I agree it would have been better earlier on likewise would have been better if we picked our quickest bowler but hey ho! No point dwelling in the past just enjoy it!

We have been embarrassed and hammered in this series, utterly smashed when the pressure was on and now we get all tough now the series is over!

People getting all happy about us being successful in this Test isn't helpful, no way should our humiliation be forgotten as lessons need to be learn't now and not covered over.

It's a good knock and important for the Test cricket to come in a few month's time. But it would have been better if he had got runs in the first two Tests when his team really needed them.

But I agree with wolf, it's all about Wood bowling in the 2nd innings. Interesting question is whether Wood should get the new ball. Generally, you give your quickest bowler the new ball and his bowling in the 1st innings could mean that he opens with Anderson (I can't see any England captain not giving Anderson the new ball).

Important for the odis coming up as well.

Can't see Root doing anything but open with Anderson and Broad, I certainly would open with Wood but I'm pretty sure that won't happen.
