T20 Tour of England – Beyond Divison 3

Division 1:the final frontier. These are the voyages of the cricket team USA. It’s continuing mission: to explore strange newish leagues, to seek out more points and world cup qualification, to boldly go where few USA teams have gone before.

After a poor tour in the one day game followed by a short break, we return energized and eager to engage in a successful T20 campaign. It is highly illogical that we are doing so well in T20 despite our one day struggles. It’ll largely be the same squad from the last tour although there are some differences. Fowler is replaced by Gordon whilst Barnes and Ashton Ashley are transported out of the squad in favour of wrist-spinners, Ball and Garner.

Batsmen
Corey Gray (Spinkings)
Charlie Alexander (Philly_Bluenose)
Juan Ashley (Central Coast Dolphins)
Max Ayala (Woodchester XI)
Francisco Best (Ruff Royals)
Felix Gordon (Hasraz)
Brian Gentry (Caterham Crusaders)

Keepers
Glenn Steele (The Bengals)
Martina Martinez (Asterix & Obelix)

Bowlers
Anthony Armstrong (Moogy Meadows CC)

Marshawn Lynch (Cover Point)
Michael Scott (Ashburn CC)

Freddie Hogan (Caribbean Pirates)

Nathaniel Roberts (Philly_Bluenose)
Andre Matthews (Inchigeela Angels)

Marvin Garner (Spinkings)
Tony D’Amico (Springfield Isotopes)
Terrance Ball (Maiden Over CC)

Pitches
Crumbling v England
Crumbling v Kenya
Sticky v Netherlands
Sticky v Australia
Crumbling v Sri Lanka

Our matches start at 10:00 on 6th June 2022. Please follow the USA as we try to live long and prosper in the top division!

Given the pitches, any batsmen who averages over 20 will get a bonus in their paycheck!

Well, that went pretty well. Not only did we avoid relegation, but our final game was the Championship decider. Sadly, Sri Lanka were just slightly too strong for us, and their 5th wicket partnership propelled them to a score we couldn't chase.

Alexander and Martinez got the batting bonus paycheck, but Gentry was peeved to find out that his average of exactly 20 wasn't >20. Back to math classes for Gentry!

Roberts was the stand out bowler, with 12 wickets in 3 games at an average of only 4.50.

Tour of Scotland- Squad Announcement

Many seasons ago a crack* cricket team was sent to a prison due to a lack of points for the crime of not being lucky enough. These men promptly fought to escape the maximum-security stockade that is division 3. Today, still wanting to promote, they survive as cricketers of misfortune. They have a problem... no one else can help... but if you can find them**... maybe you can support... The USA Team.

UAE win the touring rights and send us on a trip to Scotland. We’ve got a few new members of the team. Flenderson has his chance as an opener and batter Reeves is in too. Then there’s two fm’s in the form of Roth and Cook.

Anyway, it’s about time I stopped this jibba jabba and I look forward to this time next week when Philly is saying “ I love it when a plan comes together” as we secure promotion to division 2

* I said crack; that wasn't a mistype.
** You should be able to find them. I have told you where and when at the end of this post.

Batsmen
Corey Gray (Spinkings)
Charlie Alexander (Philly_Bluenose)
Juan Ashley (Central Coast Dolphins)
Max Ayala (Woodchester XI)
Frank Fowler (Spinkings)
Toby Flenderson (Hotstuff172)
Aiden Reeves (Chicago Flying Tram)

Keepers
Glenn Steele (The Bengals)
Martina Martinez (Asterix & Obelix)

Bowlers
Anthony Armstrong (Moogy Meadows CC)
Alfred Barnes (Hoarders)

Marshawn Lynch (Cover Point)
Michael Scott (Ashburn CC)
Jacob Roth (Snickets II CC)
Ashton Ashley (Rostrevor XI)
Dennis Cook (Tractor boys)

Nathaniel Roberts (Philly_Bluenose)

Tony D’Amico (Springfield Isotopes)

Pitches
Hard v Pakistan
Hard v Bangladesh
Uneven v Australia
Hard v Kenya
Uneven v UAE

Our matches start at 09:00 on 4th July 2022. Follow the USA team in division 3. You’d be a crazy fool to miss it!

This tour's wickets will favour the faster bowlers, so we're aiming for some fireworks from our quickies in the opening game on the 4th of July!

Hopefully, this will be the day we start on the road to Independence from Division 3. :whistle

I just noticed that the first game up is going to be played at The A-Team CG. I wish that was some kind of an omen but it's not going well at 121-6.

7 wickets for Pakistan's spinners in the first game! Hot pitch so that help them a bit but still a little surprising.

T20 World Cup: New Zealand – Squad Announcement

After qualifying for another T20 world cup, we get to see the sights of New Zealand. Sadly, this world cup came too late for us to visit the official wizard of NZ as they lost their job. Let’s hope for some magic cricket instead!

The squad will be familiar to USA supporters as there are no new faces to international cricket although there are some who are making their T20 debut. Spinkings have the greatest representation with 3 players whilst Philly_Bluenose are next with 2 players. If my eyes don’t deceive me everyone else has 1 player.

How far can the USA get? Anything is possible in T20 so let’s get behind the team and cheer them all the way to the end.

Batsmen
Corey Gray (Spinkings)
Charlie Alexander (Philly_Bluenose)
Juan Ashley (Central Coast Dolphins)
Max Ayala (Woodchester XI)
Frank Fowler (Spinkings)
Toby Flenderson (Hotstuff172)
Francisco Best (Ruff Royals)

Keepers

Marvin Garner (Spinkings)
Terrance Ball (Maiden Over CC)

Pitches
Crumbling v Netherlands
Sticky v Canada
Uneven v UAE
Crumbling v England
Hard v India

Our matches start at 22:00 on 28th July 2022. Support the USA in our world cup adventure in New Zealand.

A great start to our campaign, with a relatively comfortable 7 wicket win over The Netherlands. On paper, the teams were well matched, but after a steady start the NL innings fell away, losing regular wickets to finish on 122-9. Roberts and Ashley were the pick of the bowlers.

In response, after Ashley fell early, all the batsmen contributed to a controlled chase, winning with more than 3 overs spare.

Now we face Canada, who lost to The UAE in Game 1.

After losing games 2 and 3, our backs were against the wall. :whip

What happened next must be one of the most remarkable victories in USA history.

On a crumbling wicket, we inserted England and bowled them out of 50!
D'Amico had record T20 bowling figures (5 for 9) for the USA vs. England, with Roberts taking 3 wickets.
We then chased down the total in only 8 overs, for a 9 wicket victory :clap :dance

Stunning. It means we have a chance to progress to the semi finals, if we win Game 5 against India.

In the final group game, India set a strong target, but we chased it down to win and advance to the semi-final. :party :party :party
