Re: Under 19 Matters
Canada U19 won by 126 runs
W. Robertson (rm) 8.3-1-40-3, F. Routledge 3 (10b)
End of over 36 (1 run) - South Africa U19(141-10). 127 runs required from 14 overs. RR 3.92 RRR 9.07
Absolutely embarrassing performance, especially given equal ratings. Gutted at that performance

This tour just hasn't gone to plan so far. Can't take a bloody wicket! Game 1 1st wicket in 22nd over, Game 2 2nd wicket not until 29th over and today's match into the 20th over and only 1 wicket down don't know who's black cat I ran over but seriously need a change of luck here!

Yesterday on a Hard batting pitch he returned 1 for 28 and today on the Uneven seaming pitch which should have suited him better he returned 0 for 55...some days you're the pigeon, some days you're the statue
I fully expect it hasn't happened but if you use the same bowling orders and tactics match after match you are likely to get similar results match after match. Opening batsman taking on the captaincy instead of the more experienced and popular Frankish is also likely to impact our fielding and his batting.simmo014 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2019 9:03 amThis tour just hasn't gone to plan so far. Re: Under 19 Matters
Orders and tactics are not the same every match no.
Kops is captain over Frankish today (who captained yesterday) as this is Kops 3 straight game so he gets tomorrow off which means he gets the captaincy fatigue hit. If Frankish captains today he then is too fatigued for tomorrow which then leaves us without a viable captain option and short a valuable Rfm bowler. This way means Frankish can play tomorrow. You can't just play your best players and captain every match. Fatigue and conditions etc etc come into it

Re: Under 19 Matters
No doubt you are correct, I have a different understanding on fatigue.
Kops started his 3rd game in rested fatigue scoring 21 from 58 balls. with tonights game he will likely end up energetic post match...might recover to revived after update.
Frankish started this game at revived after 1 match taking 2-41 and then a quick 28 from 31 balls. Tonight he has taken 2/38. even if he doesn't bat he will still be energetic after the update. Performance is likely to affect fatigue more than being captain. Depending on his endurance for an attack bowler with expert capt and reliable experience he would have done better playing games 1,3 and 5 instead of 2,3 and 4.

Re: Under 19 Matters
It's not a matter of who is right and who is wrong. There are always more factors at play that can't be seen from the outside, for example the 1st game of the tour under normal circumstances yes Frankish would have been selected as part of our best 5 bowlers and indeed has been the last 2 tours this season. 4 bowlers were ahead of him for that 1st match (Peryman RF, Routledge RFM, Vorster LM, Ndlovu LM). The final bowling spot came down to either Dalkin RM or Frankish RFM and they were both on the same summary. Being a Green pitch I went the way of the RM in Dalkin (he ended with 1 for 37 from 10 overs). This left Kops as the captain in the 1st game who is acceptable at Accomplished captaincy and then left Frankish to lead the attack and captain the next day. If you look back at the 1st OD tour plus the T20 tour this season you will see that Frankish played 4 matches in each tour and did well so I am aware of what he can do for us. Pitch and managing fatigue in this particular tour has dictated Dalkin over Frankish 1st match rather than blindly picking best available all the time and not paying attention to fatigue and future games needs on tour. Its worked for me in every tour i've ever been in charge of and as an assistant way back to my Dutch days. You only need to look back to the last T20 tour to see that we lost the 1st 2 games (1 of which we were unlucky to lose) but good fatigue management saw us finish strongly and win our last 3 matches to win promotion. In the above example of Dalkin vs Frankish there were other factors considered also but I used the pitch example to just highlight that its not just simply picking your best captain etc etc. Winning the 1st game at all costs is shortsighted and never been my MO. Hope this helps explain my selection process a little.

Being Capt adds a percentage of the total fatigue a player picks up in the match
So effectively (A+B+C)*(100+X%)

Re: Under 19 Matters
I always assume it is 1 level of fatigue each game as captain as a rough guide, so if he wasn't the captain and played a match and would have ended as Revived, as captain he would end up as Energetic for that game. Usually works out right

Re: Under 19 Matters
Very pleased to know I understand how fatigue plays out.
We were perhaps unlucky to lose the first match, maybe even underestimated them. It was pretty obvious after our second game that our opening side could been improved with the inclusion of a couple of more experienced players. This tour did start with a must win game.
Your the right one for the job and have done well all season. You pick a good side with good tactics. You've also gained some good experience as an assistant. I think its your first run as manager and next season should be a beauty.
