Version 82

Post by FTP-ashario » Tue Sep 30, 2008 11:39 am

Estimated Deployment Date: Wednesday 1st October

Included in this version

New Feature: Away Challenges
Managers can challenge other teams at the away team's home ground. Matches will begin at the default starting time for the home team

Match Engine: Runouts
Runouts will be more likely to occur towards the end of an innings (eg as we get closer to the 50 over mark in a senior one day match, or the 20 over mark in a Twenty20 match)

Match Engine: Farming the Strike
When deemed appropriate, batsmen will attempt to farm the strike during an innings. An excerpt from the version 82 rules are below.
The practice of 'farming the strike' involves the more accomplished batsman in a partnership protecting the lesser batsman by attempting to face a high percentage of deliveries during a batting partnership. The likelihood of a batsman attempting to farm the strike (for example by refusing
to run a single during the early part of the over, or by only running a single towards the end of an over even when two runs are possible) is influenced by a number of factors including the relative batting skills of both batsman, the experience of both batsman, and of course the current match situation.
Given the somewhat complex nature of the code required to implement this feature, the 'should I farm the strike' code will initially be enabled for friendly matches only. If/when the community agrees things are working OK, the code will be introduced for all other matches.

Match Engine: Those pesky tailenders!

The effect of 'surplus technique' when determining a batsman's ability to avoid being dismissed during a delivery has been reduced. Surplus technique can be defined as the technique skill above and beyond the level of a player's batting skill.

For example, a batsman with poor batting and capable technique will be slightly easier to dismiss in version 82. A batsman with ordinary batting and ordinary technique will remain unaffected, as will a batsman *cough Saunders cough* with spectacular batting and reasonable technique.

This change will also have a minor affect on match ratings.

Several other minor bugfixes are implemented in this version, including the Knights Pavilion Cup Curse of Round 7 :ninja
