National Teams are so 2006, Franchises are the future!
Basic Idea: Keep Player Nationalities the same, but instead of 20 Nat sides, we have 10 Franchises, pairing nations up for 2 seasons, then find a new partner.
Imagine a Australia / Nepal alliance, where 1st week you select 18 players (minimum 8 players from both teams, so 8 Australians - 10 Nepalese, 9 from both, or 8 Nepalese - 10 Australians)
Then to get to a 20 man squad, we have 2 franchise players
Week 2 Monday to Wednesday midnight, each franchise adds 10 Batsmen in priority order, then 10 Bowlers in priority order onto draft boards to submit by Wednesday Midnight, but they can’t be Australian or Nepalese in this example, so every other nation available except the 2 in the franchise and they can’t see skills unless club manager has as visible.
Then on the Week 2 Friday, the results of the draft are shared (So if you were pick 10 for batsmen, you’d be pick 1 for bowling, and if your top 9 batsmen were all selected by the other 9 franchises, you’d get your 10th choice, although extremely unlikely!)
Then after the 2 seasons, its time to team up with a different nation
(Could make this nominate 20, draft 4 players in the future, with original squads starting at 16 then expanding to 20)
This may confuse new players and annoy traditionalists, but would give fresh new challenge, different nations can compete!
I may have cooked or burnt down the kitchen, there is no middle ground …

Re: Replace Nats with Franchises
Not going to knock the idea as I really love the innovation and do think that the current number of nations is ultimately unsustainable for the number of active keen managers.
How would it work logistically?
Are you voted in as manager of your nation (and then “paired” into the franchise)?
Or is the pair of nations established for the term pre election and then one manager gets voted in as franchise manager for the term?
Would the franchises be the same for both formats? Would the franchises be the same of Seniors and Youths?

Just here to contribute a few cracking commentary lines and spend hours on the transfer market.

Re: Replace Nats with Franchises
Woah cheers moose! Food for thought!
The worry would be 30 managers would be a lot!
So maybe 20 managers nominate for 20 nations, then pairs assigned, different to seniors, as based on strength over the next 2 years
Then could have week 2, nominate who want 2 t20 tours and 1 one day, then vice versa,
To avoid arguments on who picks lineup, when one manager has final say, the other can set orders if none set, so you'd reduce the risk, of 1 manager letting the franchise down, but probs a lot to get sorted first!
