Even wickets not proving to be that favourable for batting. 254/9 proving to be plenty after batting first.

So with Bennett gone up to the senior side we lose about 10k in ratings which isn't nice! We really struggled to take wickets and they scored 159 after we made them bat first. Buck didn't enjoy his first YT20 as he went for 33 in his 2 overs. Thankfully, magnificent Mitchell turned up with the bat to score 80 not out from 52 balls and we won with 5 balls to spare.

We started so well. We won the toss, bowled first, and had taken 3 wickets in the first 7 balls. We didn't really push on and bowl them out but we did restrict them to only 109.

Our batting was awful. It was okay at 33-2 if we could recover a bit but Mubalik ripped out our middle order with 3 wickets in the next over. We were never going to recover from 33-5 and in the end I think we were lucky to reach 97 all out.

I was hoping to be involved in a promotion battle but we're already 8 points behind and it's looking more like we're in a relegation battle.

Made a couple of changes to manage fatigue and to take account of the bowling conditions. Nearly cost me the match - suprised the impact it had on the team's rating. Definintely need to strengthen..

Rested the majority of the 1st XI, so no surprise in yesterday's loss.

Some awful bowling from us. We did manage to pick up some wickets around the 30th over but 234 on a dry pitch was far too much for us to chase. We got to 145 in the end which was also terrible and owed much to a couple of bowlers who managed to get some runs for us.

It really did some damage to our net run rate.

Home Ruff Royals
Away The Raging Speed Horns
Ground Ruff Royals CG
League One Day 2.1
Date 26 Jan 24 10:00
Crowd 20,556
Weather Sunny
Pitch Slow

It's going to be a tough game today and I'm not at all confident.

M. Calver (lm) 10-0-52-1, D. Combs 1 (3b), M. Schmidt 71 (87b)
End of over 50 (6 runs) - Ruff Royals(204-8) RR 4.08

Schmidt was great with his 71 not out. We were 107-6 at one point so it was an okay recovery. Patterson's 33 was also important. I still don't think 204 is going to be enough bat at least we've got something to defend.

Their batters have got off to a flying start.

R. Schneider (rm) 3-0-16-0, J. Shalidor 19 (30b), P. Labyrinth 29 (30b)
End of over 10 (3 runs) - The Raging Speed Horns(48-0). 157 runs required from 40 overs. RR 4.80 RRR 3.92

J. Westerveld (rfs) 4-0-11-1, P. Labyrinth 57 (78b), H. Charlton 2 (5b)
End of over 25 (2 runs) - The Raging Speed Horns(115-1). 90 runs required from 25 overs. RR 4.60 RRR 3.60

A wicket in the 25th over. My medium pacers have been poor so far despite the conditions. Rush has been particularly disappointing considering he's a quality bowler (made it to elite summary last season). We're going to need a big improvement just to reduce the net run rate damage.

We didn't score enough and the medium pacers let us down. The biggest test in SOD so far this season was comprehensively failed and only losing by 4 wickets is somewhat generous to us.

This is a tight league with a nice balance between teams - top 5 on 8 points. It could end up decided on NRR (and mine's abysmal) if no one gets away from the pack.

Yeah, I missed the bulk of this game due to Burns Night alcohol abuse...probably for the best - that mini collapse towards the end of the innings wouldn't have been good for my constitution - but we muddled through in the end - Labyrinth was blatantly out to impress the tour selectors, the little show off :ninja

Might have expected a bigger victory given my opponent decided to play 4 right -arm finger spinners on a Sunny/hard wicket! Still my finger spinner had the best bowling figures of the match, so what do I know!!

Very strong performance, especially with the bat with all our bats getting decent contributions, Van Den Bergh top scoring with 67 (77). Good result after a couple of defeats, feel like our home form is going to be crucial this season if we are to stay up. Really need to improve our spin resources if we're to be more competitive away from home ...
