Its a good confidence booster for us to strike up a few good wins before a tour.
We look to be developing a good squad for the future with some nice players coming through.
It looks like we will be in for a tough season with the tours again, although with our rejuvenated squad and overall lack of experience we can look forward to some good improvements during the season as our squad gains more experience.
It certainly is, Iโ€™m pretty happy with how these friendlies have gone, I agree the squad does need some experience, but I had the opposite end of the scale last year and the old squad just didnโ€™t perform.

Touring players will have the minimum required spec exp but there are some exciting younger players on the fringes.

Tour 1 pitches are spin friendly which works in our favour, hoping to get some positive results this tour.

Iโ€™m confident we can turn things around this season.

You'll never lose from too much experience and an old squad with failing skills never goes far.
The squad looks decent enough for div3 although I don't rate our chances much for the first tour after looking at our opponants. We look to have the skills to win a few games and with a fairly young squad we should be able to build up a strong experienced side.
Here's hoping for a good tour.

Friendly against the windies today.

Was really looking forward to this one as we arranged this as the youngest XI in each squad to get a game. The windies played a 23 year old :o

Sticky wicket so expected a difficult day for the batsmen.

We started poorly at 28-3, main man Amla with a disappointing innings. Then we had some great partnerships in the middle order and managed to post a very respectable 202 before being skittled. Redick top scoring with 98, but a handy knock for the back up keeper seccull of 41

Really happy with that batting performance, and it looked like a good total when we had the windies 23-3, but their middle order was brilliant and they pretty much cruised the chase. Losing 6 wickets in the process. Mutizwa the pick of the bowlers with 2-20 off his 8 overs.

Gutted to lose but it was just an experimental game to give our future stars a game.

Rated 256k.

Iโ€™ll be adding the touring squad on here for the Australia tour within the next couple of days so keep an eye out.

Squad has been finalised and is now ready for tour 1.

Spinner friendly pitches so we have gone for 5 spinners and 4 pacers.

Team (debut in bold):

Batsmen:
Gerrie Olivier
Hashim Amla (legend)
Hansie Herbst
Forward Mboyi (C)
Heino Du Plessis (C)

Michael Van Straaten

Lawrie Trenerry

Wicket keepers:
Clement Rundell
Allen Seccull

Allrounders:
Ben Simmons rws
Nelie McPherson rfs
Peter Boucher rfs
Klippies Hodgetts rm

Bowlers:
Garnet greaves rf
Tshedi mutizwa rf
Cain Valesquez rfs
Wikus Howell rws
Joseph Makunra rfm

A few debutants for the batsmen that we are excited about.

There was a couple of players that just missed out. Joost being one of them, was hoping get one more tour out of him but recent plops have hindered his chances. A tough call because he has been great for us.

Goche also misses out, Iโ€™m sure we will definitely see him again this season but Howell has been given the chance.

Really looking forward to this tour, hoping we can have a good season.

Friendly today against UAE

We had a disappointing game with both bat and ball. Just a real bad day at the office. A dry pitch, yet UAE played 4 pacers :?

We got bowled out for 204, trenerry top scoring with 48.

Bowled pretty poorly as well and they were on top all the way through the chase, reaching the total after 43 overs and only losing 3 wickets. Valesquez bowled well, but a poor performance all round.

Oh well, tough one against the aussies next to look forward to.

Final friendly before the tour today against USA

I decided to give the none touring players a chance.

Batted first on a slow pitch, a couple of strong performances by Joost (42) and Nomis (55) helped us make 217 all out. Which I s a respectable total on a slow pitch.

We started off the bowling well and took some early wickets , before a couple of massive partnerships put us behind. It looked like they were going cruise it before Goche came on to bowl. He took 3 wickets in an over including both set batsmen. We had them 9 down needing 15 runs. The last wicket stand got them within 1 run before Vernon got the final wicket.

We got a tie!! A great game to watch. Fantastic bowling performance from Goche, Iโ€™m sure he will be involved again this season.

Look forward to tour 1 on Monday.

Great first up win over USA, they nearly got away from us with the bat. Some strong middle order batting took full advantage in reclaiming the match.
Scotland next and will likely be another good one to watch.

Game 1 against USA.

Lost the toss and USA decided to bat. Conditions were slow/humid, which is always an awkward one for the bowlers. I decided to go for 3 pacers. Our next 3 games are dry so this is there best chance of a performance.

They batted really well and put up a respectable total of 268-7, our bowling looked a little flat, and the fielding was awful, plenty of dropped catches to be annoyed about. McPherson was the only bowler to go for less than 5 an over.

Was expecting a difficult chase, it got off to an awful start with both openers going cheaply, the legend that is Amla stepped up and put in a fine performance. Some great middle order batting actually made the chase quite comfortable, the allrounders then finished it off nicely.

We won with 2 overs spare finishing 268-6. Great knocks from Herbst (73) Amla (55) and mboyi (40). Great senior international debuts for mboyi and van staaten who have botched deserved their chance to tour.

We rated 261k which is pretty high considering I only played 2 allrounders, second best in the league (behind the Aussies)

Cheers Boscorp :thumbsup I was definitely nervous with the bowling and fielding letting us down a bit, our middle order is really strong. I love Amla, the lowest wage bat we have at only 18.5k but he constantly performs. Herbst showing his class again as well.

Looking forward to the next one :thumbsup

Another solid performance against Scotland with a second win was a terrific result. A good confidence booster for selectors leading into another tough match against UAE.
Nice to see a few recurring names performing well for us. Just the one bowler remaining after 2 matches that hasn't taken a wicket and some fine batting efforts too.
Both games so far have been worth watching from start to finish with plenty of action.

Apologies for the delay in match report, probably still in shock from todayโ€™s performance.

We played the Scots today in game 2.

Lost the toss but I was happy to bat first on humid/dry.

We got off to a shaky start but the middle order got us out of trouble again. That man Amla knocking another 50 (64) also a great knock for van straaten who made a 50. The allrounders managed to get us to a respectable 238-8 off the 50 overs. Not the greatest total but defendable.

We then put up an amazing bowling performance, the best I have seen for a while, Scotland constantly lost wickets at regular intervals, they never looked comfortable in the chase. If it wasnโ€™t for some poor fielding and shoddy keeping we would have bowled them out for less, Scotland managed to get to 175 before greaves dealt the killing blow. Great bowling performance all round. 3 wickets for greaves and valesquez, Simmons also chipped in with a couple.

Great start to the tour 2 from 2. We need to keep it up now!

Looks like Cal is still in shock. :D
We played well and beat UAE in the 3rd and we played well and lost to AUS today. Sharing the lead with Australia and Pakistan and holding a small NRR lead we still have a decent claim at the title.
With our recent good form, a lot of luck and a small fitness advantage we might be able to pull off win over pakistan and hope AUS doesn't have a large win.
Win or lose we have put on a decent show.
Have we got anyone in the running for series champion?

Cheers Boscorp,

Havenโ€™t had as much time the last few days for the full match reports.

We had a great performance against the UAE, thrashed them in a 116 run win. Rundell (77) helped us to 233 then the pacers mutizwa (3-21) and Makunra (4-19) were excellent. We skittled them for 117

https://www.fromthepavilion.org/scoreca ... Id=5821193

Against the Aussies, we failed with the bat only making 184, Amla the GOAT made 46. We put up a great fight with the ball though and managed to get them 7 down, Valesquez (4-37) Simmons (3-39). A loss in the end, our first defeat, but a valiant effort.

https://www.fromthepavilion.org/scoreca ... Id=5821195

Series champion will always be Amla, no matter the result tomorrow. Unfortunately he isnโ€™t fit enough for the last game  Herbst is ready and raring to go though, hoping he can give us a match winning performance.

No matter the result and outcome, itโ€™s been a much improved tour to last seasons performances.

Letโ€™s make it a good one!!
