West Indies: One Day Tour 1 (March 22-26): Squad Announcement
The first Senior National One Day Tour has come beckoning upon us. It begins March 22, and the 18 players which are getting to tour across the Caribbean Islands representing West Indies for the tour week are announced. The West Indian Management would like to thank the services of all managers who have let their players free for the tour and allowed them to play at the highest level, and have the honours of representing their nation.

Aaron Munilall Gold Prospectors X1 Right-arm Fast Medium/Right-hand Bat DEBUT

Audrey Anthony Nepali Gaints Left-hand Bat

Carl Beresford John Peters Espionage PLC Left-arm Fast

Colin Eugene Caribbean Pirates Right-hand Bat

Floyd Doctrove Blaze Of Glory Right-hand Bat

Henry John Caribbean Pirates Right-arm Wrist Spin

Hubert Newton Marvellous XI Right-hand Bat

Imtiaz Whybrew Baltimore Dolphins Left-hand Bat

Jason Hislop Space Wolves Left-arm Wrist Spin DEBUT

Len Thomas Caribbean Pirates Right-hand Bat

Martin Marshall Gold Prospectors X1 Left-hand Keeper Bat DEBUT

Melford Griffith Crni Zmajevi Cricket Club Right-hand Bat

Peter Griffin Caribbean Pirates Right-arm Finger Spin

Sugrim Hughes Queens Park Cricket Club Right-arm Fast DEBUT

Sydney Cox Legacy of Warne Left-arm Fast Medium

Troy Joseph Antiguan Golden Cats Right-arm Finger Spin/Right-hand Bat

Wilfred Austin Direwolves Right-arm Fast Medium

Winston Nunes One Man Rock Band Right-hand Keeper Bat

This 18-player squad will be playing in West Indies, on Dry, Flat and Hard Tracks. With as many as four players making their Senior International Debuts, a rather young West Indies side will be participating, and would bank on the support of the home crowd. The games will be played at 1500 FTP Time, and the fixtures and pitches have been released:

March 22- West Indies vs Australia Hard

March 23- West Indies vs United Arab Emirates Dry

March 24- West Indies vs Netherlands Dry

March 25- West Indies vs Sri Lanka Flat

March 26- West Indies vs Ireland Hard

As an added segment to the squad announcement, here are two players, who the writer estimates are amongst the top brass of the relatively younger players West Indies are producing and will be excited for their performances:
  • Troy Joseph
An exciting prospect for quite some time, the young lad made his debut at the marquee 50-over World Cup last EOS, and returned as West Indies's fantasy point champion. His performances in the preparation friendlies since haven't been dipping, and he is a player to keep an eye on.
  • Melford Griffith
Barely 26, and Melford Griffith heads for his second tour with an innings that he already has on his highlight reel. A 94 against Australia in the last tour of Season 46, despite being in a lost cause was a masterpiece, and showed his technique and grit. His high application of the skills he possesses render him quite the force to reckon with. With Eugene turning 30 and Doctrove slowly following, Griffith seems ready to take charge, and will be hoping to turn his innings to victories

Thank you:)

Season 47 NAT One Day Division 2 Tour 1 Summaries
West Indies vs Australia
West Indies had welcomed the squads of Australia, United Arab Emirates, Netherlands, Sri Lanka and Ireland to the Caribbean Islands for the upcoming week. The games began on March 22 at 1500 GMT. West Indies were up against the Aussies in their first match. The curators had prepared a hard deck for the encounter, and there were heavy winds blowing across the pitch as captains Sharrod Hay and Imtiaz Whybrew, who made his debut for West Indies in the pre-season World Cup, walked out for the toss. Australia elected to bat first, and the player who's considered the star of FTP, the player that rates better than anyone else, Brandon Primmer(he is like England's Gideon Wettenhall, but better) opened alongside Mark Waugh. The new ball was in Carl Beresford's hands, as he had moved upwards from the role of a mentee to Curtly Ambrose, to a mentor for the new fasties in the squad. The buildup was intense, and the anticipation was massive, and quite sensibly, the game began with a dot ball.

The first innings saw West Indies being whacked all over the park by Brandon Primmer and Crackers Breust, as the two of them hit 18 boundaries. Beresford did bring in some damage control at the end, as his 4-fer helped clean up the tail and stopped the Aussies at 328, who at one stage, were looking to scale down 350. A heavy amount of extras, as balls that should have been dot balls, were converted into leg byes really hurt the West Indian outfit. Jason Hislop, the lone spinner in the eleven had a decent day out being hit for an economy of 4.4 as his mates were hit for a run-a-ball or more.

The chase started on the wrong foot for West Indies as they lost Nunes at 33 in over 5. Wickets falling continuously hindered partnerships, and allowed Aussies to control the required run rate. As the RRR scaled high, West Indies lost two wickets in an over to Aussie wristy Eddie McGuire. This put West Indies in an unwinnable position, and they needed a record innings to come back in the contest. Answering this call was young lad Melford Griffith, who brought in an unexpected optimism to the game that was almost definitely lost when West Indies needed 173 off 22 overs with barely 4 wickets in hand, with a masterful 122 runs off 132 balls, as the tailenders alongside him played block. His efforts were truly inspirational, but fell short for West Indies, and they succumbed to defeat by 72 runs.

Other Results in Division 2
With all 3 games occurring under Hard/Windy conditions, the theme of the other two games was similar as well.
Netherlands beat United Arab Emirates by 53 runs.
Sri Lanka beat Ireland by 142 runs.

Fixture on March 23
West Indies vs United Arab Emirates
West Indies will next face United Arab Emirates in a game that begins on 1500 GMT at a dry track, as the forecast predicts that winds will still have a strong say on the game tomorrow. Both teams will be looking to grab their first win of the tourney, and make NRR reparations for the 50+ run losses they've had today.

Season 47 NAT One Day Division 2 Tour 1 Summaries
West Indies vs United Arab Emirates
Game 2 for West Indies was against the Emiratis, on a dry pitch that the brought a grin to the spinner's faces, whilst the seamers weren't the biggest fans of the track. Peter Griffin won the toss for West Indies, and United Arab Emirates were put into bat. They faced quite a lot of troubles as the West Indian bowlers never let them build partnerships, and the departure of wickets staggered the scoring rate. Emirati Hana Hassan batted more than 25 overs, staying on the pitch for almost the full 50 overs, but he was a lone wolf. Having to revitalise the inning with the fall of every wicket became tougher for him. Although, Hassan did end up making Wilfred Austin his fodder in the final overs, as he was hit all around the park and had quite an expensive outing. The lucky lad of the day was Sydney Cox, who after having a mediocre outing last night, made amends today, leaking barely 33 in his 10.

The chase was after 210 runs, and Troy Joseph walked out to open alongside Audrey Anthony. The plan seemed clear, as Joseph had come in with a pinch-hitter role and he had to attempt to set the powerplay ablaze. And the punt worked, as Joseph smacked four boundaries in his 29 run knock. After winning the first 10 overs of the innings, the next 10 belonged to their bowlers. Posing questions with 4 spinners in their lineup, UAE were able to put West Indies 4 wickets down with 126 runs still in need. The next 10 overs were probably the crux of the game. Len Thomas and Colin Eugene were both using all the three wishes they got, as they were dropped and had stumping chances that they survived multiple times. Len Thomas had 2 chances dropped off of two balls, and that probably lowered the UAE morale quite a bit, as the rest of the chase became a steamroll. Colin Eugene remained the beauty he has always been as his 83* and Thomas 62*(69), with 2 absolute monstrosity of sixes carried West Indies over the line with 5 overs to go.

Other Results in Division 2
Netherlands beat Ireland by 3 wickets
Australia beat Sri Lanka by 22 runs

Fixture on March 24
West Indies vs Netherlands
West Indies next face the Dutch, who are on a different high currently, having won the World Cup, and starting the tour off with 2 wins in a row. West Indies play them on a pitch that is expected to be quite similar to the one they had their game on today. The dryness of the track might not combine well with heavy clouds and greyish sky that is forecasted for tomorrow, and one could expect quite a hoot for tomorrow's encounter.

Season 47 NAT One Day Division 2 Tour 1 Summaries
West Indies vs Netherlands
Facing the team that is fresh off of a successful World Cup campaign is amongst the most daunting tasks in cricket. The Dutch were high on confidence and they made it count, getting their third win in a row against West Indies. Winning the toss and batting first, Victor Van Nierop scored a scintillating 73, participating in crucial partnerships and getting his team to 250. Jason Hislop, who made it into the squad off of his ability to get the older ball to talk and scare the batsman, proved his point today grabbing a 5-fer leaking barely 37 runs. His efforts did not allow the Dutch tail to smash a few extra boundaries in the final few overs, but a target of 251 on the dry track was still a challenge for West Indies.

The chase began off very well for West Indies, assembling 66 runs in 13 overs in the opening stand. Whilst a couple of wickets put them on the back foot, Winston Nunes, who has been performing way above his pay grade for West Indies, and the evergreen legend Colin Eugene did some damage-control in the next 8 overs. West Indies could not build a victory on the starts their players were getting, as they lost 5 wickets in the next 10-odd overs. Left reeling at 144/7 after 33 overs, Colin Eugene attempted to get some runs going as Carl Beresford played block, but Colin Eugene was hit right on the knee-roll to an off-cutter by seamer Boudewijn Kusters. After that, West Indies scored 17 runs for the last 2 wickets, but the Dutch had already locked the points in their bag.

Other Results in Division 2
Sri Lanka beat United Arab Emirates by 44 runs
Australia beat Ireland by 13 runs.

Fixture on March 25
West Indies vs Sri Lanka
West Indies and Sri Lanka will be paying a visit to the devil's land, as we have reached the flat tracks to play Game 4 of Division 2. West Indies, currently at 1 win and 2 losses whereas Sri Lanka are at the polar opposite of 1 loss and 2 wins will play each other on a flat track and under cloudy conditions tomorrow. A win for Sri Lanka gives them a good chance at ending top 2, and also adds a lot of troubles to the West Indian campaign with the worries of relegation. It is also most likely, that the winner of Australia vs Netherlands confirms their qualification to Division 1 and the unfortunate side after the encounter between United Arab Emirates and Ireland will have relegation to Division 3 at their hands. Anyways, Round 4 is pretty crucial for all teams and would make the scenarios very clear for Round 5.

Season 47 NAT One Day Division 2 Tour 1 Summaries
West Indies vs Sri Lanka
This was one of those games where everything seems to go right, and you think you've gone ahead and won it, and almost the very next moment, everything has gone wrong. Electing to bat first on a flat track and under cloudy conditions, Martin Marshall slammed a ton in his second international match, after grabbing a duck in the first match earlier this week. Hubert Newton's first fifty at the highest level, and young Melford Griffith's nonchalant half-century at the end carried West Indies to 279. The score was probably a little under par, but the lads had done a decent job to get there.

Chasing 280, Sri Lanka lost their first wicket pretty quick, but had a 71-run stand for the next wicket. The next 12 balls, captain Peter Griffin decided to cause mayhem, grabbing 3 wickets over the course of 3 overs. Aaron Munilall followed this act by grabbing another wicket before drinks, and Sri Lanka seemed a little helpless at 138/5.

After drinks, Ranjit Bowen and Buddhika Dinesh got into a 145-run partnership, with both of them getting decent 50's with strike rates above 90. None of West Indies' 5 bowlers seemed to have any answers to break that partnership, and Sri Lanka chased the score down with 9 balls to spare. (Pretty sure the drinks had something wrong)

Other Fixtures in Division 2
Ireland beat United Arab Emirates by 1 wicket
Netherlands beat Australia by 110 runs

Fixture on March 26
West Indies vs Ireland
West Indies play Ireland in a virtual knockout game tomorrow under clouds on a hard deck. The unfortunate side joins United Arab Emirates in the journey to Division 3.

Scenarios
The Dutch have all but confirmed qualifications to Division 1 with 4 wins in a row and a decent net run rate, and the Emiratis have a confirmed relegation at their hands with 4 losses. The 4 other teams are split into pairs of two. West Indies and Ireland play each other tomorrow and the losing side relegates. The second spot for promotion is between Sri Lanka and Australia. A healthier net run rate gives Sri Lanka a comfort cushion, but playing the Dutch, whilst they are on a roll might go against them, whereas the Aussies are playing United Arab Emirates who've not yet found a way to win in four games, but they might finally crack the case tomorrow. A possibility also exists, where Sri Lanka and Australia end up winning with massive margins and overthrow Netherlands off the top spot, but it is unlikely as Netherlands currently have +1.3 net run rate compared to Australia being in the negative after losing massively to Netherlands today.

Season 47 NAT One Day Division 2 Tour 1 Summaries
West Indies vs Ireland
How we survived Division 2, barely
In a knockout game against the Irish, survival in division 2 was on the line. The pitch was a batting paradise, and West Indian Captain Imtiaz Whybrew chose to bat first on a hard deck and under clouds. The openers started the innings off well, before Winston Nunes departed at 74 runs, and Anthony followed 17 runs later. Colin Eugene found the seamers unsettling, and finally gave off an edge to a bouncer, and Melford Griffith could not continue his great form, as he was out for a first-ball duck. Going into drinks, Ireland had a certain advantage having gotten 4 scalps for 116. Martin Marshall did some reparations alongside Imtiaz Whybrew, but both of them threw away their starts and West Indies were 162/6. Thus far, the batting performance had been a game of passing the baton, as nobody really stood up. The onus was on the all-rounders now. Aaron Munilall on his first series, and Troy Joseph was on his second, and both of them combined to produce magic. Their partnership, which had Aaron Munilall getting a half-century, carried West Indies to 275 in 50 overs.

The chase began with 2 quick wickets for West Indies. The Irish responded well and still managed 46 from the powerplay. Then Carl Beresford got the first of his five scalps of the night to break off that partnership. Troy Joseph added the pressure on Ireland by grabbing 2 more wickets in quick succession. At 79/5, the Irish hadn't given up, they had started competing in the chase just then. John Molony and Adam Finnegan repeated the Sri Lankan heroics from last night, getting the team to 238 with the sixth-wicket stand. Carl Beresford brought West Indies some relief yet again, as he got 2 wickets, and, most importantly, got rid of Adam Finnegan. Ireland had John Molony and Hugh O'Dwyer recuperate the innings, before Carl Beresford got rid of Molony and their number 10 Andrew O'Reilly to finish his 5-fer. Ireland were 257/9, and they needed 19 more to win off of 4 overs. You'd think the game is done there, and most days you'd be right, but Hugh O'Dwyer had other plans.

Off the next 17 balls, Hugh O'Dwyer played 12 of them, and number 11 Frank Sheehan played 5. Wilfred Austin had bowled 5 balls off Over 49 to Hugh O'Dwyer, and he had brought them to 269, 7 runs from the target. Austin had one ball to bowl to the tailender, and he threw everything at it. And I mean everything. He bowled the nastiest and quickest of bouncers, that made Sheehan fall over his stumps and get out hit wicket. The West Indian camps were gutted after yesterday's loss, and couldn't take one more of the same, and whilst the Irish did have unfortunate luck there and would have to bow down to Division 3 because of six runs, the game was amongst the classics and would be cherished.

Other Results in Division 2
Australia beat United Arab Emirates by 17 runs
Sri Lanka beat Netherlands by 95 runs

Implications of the Results
West Indies' win has pushed Ireland to Division 3 as United Arab Emirates' partner. Sri Lanka's win against the Dutch and the Aussies beating the Emiratis tied all 3 teams on 16 points. Australia lost the promotion on net run rate due to a massive loss to Netherlands on Day 4 as the Lankans and the Dutch head to Division 1.

Player of the Tour
The league had quite a few players shine out for West Indies. Melford Griffith's century game 1 and his fifty game 4 were both highlight-reel material, but his first ball duck might miss out on that. Colin Eugene's innings won us game 2, and game 3 had debutant Jason Hislop grab 5 wickets in an innings. Game 4 had Martin Marshall get a ton, and Hubert Newton's first fifty, and game 5 had Aaron Munilall play one of the most heroic innings. But the player of the tour had to be Carl Beresford, ending up with 11 wickets across the tour. He grabbed a 4-wicket haul game 1 and won the game with 4-wicket final spell, in a 5-fer in the final game. Touring without Curtly Ambrose, Carl Beresford rose to the occasion and has given performances way above his paycheck this tour.

Yet again, the West Indian Management would like to thank all the clubs for loaning their players for the week. The few lads who did not get chances this tour week will feature in a friendly tomorrow at 0800 FTP Time.
The next tour is a Twenty-20 International Tour beginning April 12, until then, cheer on for the West Indies U20 side in their tour beginning March 29 at 1500 FTP Time here.

Haha, it is pretty fun.

Vivalyn Hector is a pretty decent player, quite well-trained, and the Boundary Hitter Talent always helps:)

West Indies NAT Twenty-20 Tour- Division 1 Summaries
The West Indian squad was off to Netherlands to compete for the honours in the toughest T20 league there is, the International Division 1 League. Game 1 was scheduled against England, and the sun's bright rays almost lit up the many cracks of this absolutely deadly uneven track, that could seam the ball in so many ways that the batsmen were merely obstacles before the ball hit the stumps. The English captain Karl Langley opted to chase, and West Indian openers Winston Nunes and Audrey Anthony were set to begin West Indies' game 1 proceedings. And the proceedings went as you'd expect, as Anthony's stumps cartwheeled to the keeper ball 2, as he seemed clueless to massive outswinger. Fastie Julian Wainwright continued his partner's start, as he grabbed 4 more of the West Indian batsmen, to leave them on 25 runs with half the eleven back in the hut at the end of the powerplay.

At 25/5, West Indies seemed set to be done for by 50 runs, and begin a tour with amongst the worst defeats they could've had, but pressure always gives rise to heroes, and, well, Len Thomas, who got his highest score of 41, was in a 57-run partnership with captain Troy Joseph that made the game watchable again. The escape trick seemed to be working pretty well for the magicians of West Indies, but they couldn't fool the English entirely, as the English caused an uproar yet again, grabbing the final five wickets for four runs, within nine deliveries.

86 was an absolutely below par total, but the West Indian bowlers did not let the English lads get away with the game easily. The three quicks that West Indies possessed in Sugrim Hughes, Wilfred Austin and Carl Beresford pinned England down to 25/5 at the end of 7 overs. Things seemed shaky for England, but there was this lad who was still sweating it out in the middle for them, he has been one to have caused quite the noise over the past few seasons. The price tag pressure seemed to get the best of Gideon Wettenhall every now and then, but he broke free of those shackles today. Hitting 37 runs off 29 balls, he was the only English batsman to hit a maximum, and was the quickest batsman on the field today. His innings, alongside Andrew Flintoff's equivalent hand, brought England 8 runs away from the target. They were 79 runs, and 8 wickets down, and one overflighted delivery from captain Troy Joseph, in attempts to get the best of the tail, backfired, as he was driven for a four, and England barely won the game that, at one point, seemed as if West Indies were in for an absolute bashing, but ended up becoming a memorable low scoring thriller.

Other Results in Division 1
New Zealand beat United States of America by 24 runs.
Bermuda beat Netherlands by 5 wickets.

Fixture on April 13
Despite having lost by a margin of 3 overs to spare, the low scores for the day do not cause West Indies a massive net run rate loss, but the unexpectedness of results in Twenty20 matches might make me regret those words. West Indies next face the mighty Kiwis on another uneven track, and the humid weather would add to the batsman's misery tomorrow.

West Indies NAT Twenty-20 Tour- Division 1 Summaries
Day 2 of the tour had us pitted against the Kiwis, and the humidity accompanying another one of Dutch's cracked uneven decks had the 8 seamers across both sides eager to get the game started. Captain Peter Griffin won the toss, and put the New Zealand batsmen in to bat. The bowlers did a good job with the brand new nut, as both openers were back cheaply. One massive monstrous six later, bat Hosea Draney ended up chipping one to Carl Beresford for wicket number 3. Hallard Chinner showed some decent skill and application, hitting a careful 44* off of 47 balls. His patient innings was well boosted by Motu Jeliick's 4-boundary, 24 run stay, which lasted 10 balls, with him facing nine. This pinch-hitting classic had New Zealand's score at 133, and 134 on an uneven deck was no easy chase.

West Indies had a decent start, getting 15 off the first 2 overs. That was the best West Indies were in the game as well. Regular fall of wickets had them at 62/5 at the 10-over mark. The last of the six batsmen, Hemraj Walsh had his cautious approach fail to pay dividends as well as he chipped one to captain Red de Ranger, gifting him his fourth scalp of the day. With no real hope left in the rest of the chase, West Indies tried to strut along to the end of the 20 overs, but they were wrapped up for 91, 42 runs far from the target.

Other Results in Division 1
England beat Netherlands by 2 runs.

West Indies NAT Twenty-20 Tour- Division 1 Summaries
West Indies were facing the United States of America in Game 3 of the tour. Both teams were still on the look for their first win, and USA had their Division 1 title from last season on the line to defend to add to that. Captained by Troy Joseph, West Indies won the toss, and chose to field first. Some decent powerplay bowling from 2 bowlers that love getting the new nut to swing, allowed West Indies 2 quick wickets. The middle overs were well-played by the American Batsmen, and the 14th over being hit for a blasphemous 23 runs, propelled the score to 115 in 16 overs. But the loss of 2 quick wickets, had given West Indies a brief moment to seep back into the game. West Indians took that opportunity with both hands, as quicks Thornton Ishmael returned with 3-wicket over, and Sugrim Hughes with heavily economical figures of 4-0-12-1. They were set 140 to chase, and after the previous 2 games, this seemed to be quite an above-par total for the West Indian Batsmen.

The chase started off on the wrong foot with openers Winston Nunes and Audrey Anthony being dismissed in the second over. The scoreboard read 13/2, and on one hand was young Vivalyn Hector, on his debut tour, accompanied by Len Thomas, who had just played a 41-run innings against the English, that helped us save face, and still have a bleak shot in that game. The two combined and combatted some aggressive seam bowling with the new Kookaburra nut, with some flair boundary-hitting prowess. West Indies ended up one foot ahead in the chase with a 53-run powerplay. This magical partnership stayed unbeaten throughout, with Hector hitting 73, at a strike rate of almost 170, with as many as 54 runs off just boundaries. Len Thomas played a good supporting hand with a 43-ball fifty, that included six fours and a six. The 127-run unbeaten stand allowed West Indies to scale down the total with 4 overs to spare.

Other Results in Division 1
Bermuda beat England by 4 wickets.
New Zealand beat Netherlands by 14 runs.

Fixture on April 15- Bermuda
A win here moves us from the bottom of the table to the fourth spot. The next game would be even more crucial as the Bermudan side is on a roll with 3 consecutive wins, and will look to not let the Kiwis, who also just won the One Day Division 1 Title, beat them out for the Twenty20 Division 1 Title. The encounter takes place on an uneven deck, and with the clouds refusing to rain out a little bit, the humidity is still expected to be high.
