u20 season 45

Post by paulc » Mon Aug 31, 2020 4:43 pm

New season and for the first time we have the rolling ages for u20.
This means that we can choose players for the tour who may or may not be eligible for the World Cup adding a layer of strategy to the mix.
In our case our best wicketkeeper batsmen Warakagoda and best fast bowler Sepala from last seasons T20 world cup are still eligible for this year's world cup which is already nice but as a bonus we can take a couple of other stars into the first tour.

Of course the other teams also have this advantage and in Div1 quite a few are taking it:
Game1: green/hot England U20 won by 77 runs (England 172k, Sri Lanka 162k - a bit of a gap here, Sri Lanka lowest in the division)

Game2: green/hot vs Bangladesh - must win!

More recently winner of an unacknowledged SOD 1.1 and T20 1.1 double :P

hot weather, innit?
But yes it was impressive. He took 2 wickets in the same conditions in game 1 as well.
Taking a rest today but tomorrow we'll unleash him on a sticky pitch again.

So far so good - one loss (to New Zealand again) but 3 wins so far including over top-rated Australia today.

Last match tomorrow vs Kenya and a good chance to get promoted.

unfortunately we lost and stay in Division 2. But a very promising tour with 3 good wins and high scores.
