UAE got closer than I expected but 44 runs is still a solid win.
Huge contribution from opener Warnapura and good assistance from the allrounders.

The wickets were nicely shared out amongst the 4 seamers, 3 of whom will have to go back-back and play again tomorrow in similar conditions against the West Indies.

Sri Lanka UAE
Batting - Top Order 14,112 13,669
Batting - Middle Order 13,297 11,789
Batting - Tail 8,164 5,318
Bowling - Seam 14,432 (40) 13,632 (40)
Bowling - Spin 13,692 (10) 14,705 (10)
Fielding/Keeping 16,869 16,641
Overall 256,160 236,943

I'd say UAE made a decent fist of it considering the big rating difference. but 2-1 now and onto game 4

game 4, playing West Indies on flat/cloudy.
Just like game 2 we have to play the squad rotation game again due to fatigue issues.
and again like game 2 we've lost the toss and are bowling.

West Indies off to a par-ish start:

A. Luvis (rws) 4-0-21-0, H. Newton 1 (1b), M. Marshall 28 (34b)
End of over 12 (8 runs) - West Indies(55-1) RR 4.58

West Indies managed a good total of 279 with the daily tradition of an opener scoring a century.
In response our tired bats have struggled a bit and now we are relying on our finisher Dinesh plus allrounders to pull off an unlikely victory:

A. Munilall (rfm) 7-1-30-1, R. Bowen 10 (24b), B. Dinesh 39 (52b)
End of over 35 (6 runs) - Sri Lanka(184-5). 96 runs required from 15 overs. RR 5.26 RRR 6.40

worried for nothing...these two bats brought us home with 9 balls to spare.

Set up a great chance on the last day...win and we're promoted, lose and start praying.

batting first on dry/cloudy and its the first match which is not on hard or flat so need to re-calibrate our expectations of a good score.
89-4 after 20 overs: more runs than we should have I think but too many wickets lost as well.

that's why he's on tour!
He did the dayjob very well today also - just 14 runs off his first 6 overs.

game 5 won by 95 runs - promotion is assured! :party

Great support this week from Les and rkpny and from the managers of a great set of high power bats and wks, wicket-taking fast bowlers and spinners and 2 collapse-saving allrounders.

More to follow!

Its rare to have a tour where everyone performs well so I want to highlight each performance:

the "noobs" (6 players who did not play in the world cup)
Hunais Kuruppu (29.4) (abcdefg) a division-topping 12 wickets at 8.75 runs/wicket for the RF OBB :o

Athaunda Luvis (30.5) (bustergut) an excellent 6 wickets at 23 r/w

Thomas El Toro (27.13) (sounds complex) 5 wickets at 15 in just 2 matches and 37 runs without loss of wicket :clap

Oshi Oshini (27.4) (louthc) so good they named him twice, just the 1 wicket on tour but another great tail-end 31 runs without loss

Asanta Gajanayake (29.3) (Paul0774) crucial on the last day, he scored 131 runs at an average of 43 r/w and was top keeper in the group with 5 keeper catches and a stumping in just 2 matches with the gloves :thumbsup

Buddhika Dinesh (29.13) (justforkix) the finisher was the only one with the stamina to manage 4 matches and managed 124 runs with a huge 82no in game 4

The stats toppers

with 1501 runs scored at an average of 300.2 runs per game we had a lot of Sri Lankans near the top of the stats on this tour

Silida Warnapura (31.3) (Adrianthe opener top scored in the group with 265 runs including 1 century and 1 fifty

Neomal Irfahan (29.5) (Pompernickle) he managed 189 runs in game 1 and although he struggled to match that with his gloves still managed to top the fielding charts with 5 catches and a runout

Rajavarothiam Kuruppuarachchi (29.1) (Maps) our 3rd centurion with 166 runs total

Vasudeva Dhanayake (28.1) (Dravy) the second of of our fast bowling triplets with 6 wickets

The allrounder twins

These guys saved our bacon when the collapse seemed on

Ranjit Bowen (29.5) (Lesvo) 2 wickets and 18 runs in game 3 as captain and then 2 wickets and 81 runs from the seam specialist were invaluable in game 4

Angelo Mathews (29.5) (bura) took 5 wickets in all with 3 wickets in game 3 where he also scored 18 off 10 balls but kept the best for last with a game-changing run-a-ball 67 in game 5

the supporting crew
less of the headlines but each with a performance to be proud of

Jagath Nishantha (31.4) (Pondicherry) 3 wickets in game 3

M. Ajireen (28.4) (cmann) 2-34 in game 1, 1 in game 5

Dilum Nandana (30.13) (MightyMasher) 13 runs in game 1, 12 in game 4,

T. Kobbekaduwa (30.14) (KnightWing) 54 runs in a losing cause in game 2, 25 runs in game 4,

Indika Kumaratunga (28.13) (Paul0774) 2 catches in game 2, 43 runs in game 3 43 again! in game 5

Asanka Vethanayagam (31.1) (Ffoh) 23 runs game 2, 40 opening in game 4, 3 stumpings and a catch in game 5

And we're off on the 2nd tour of the season T20 division 3.
We need to win all 5 matches to have any chance to qualify for the world cup and even then we'd need some luck so it will be having a blast at every game and seeing if we can put together a streak of wins. Lose one or two and we'll go tactical and play for NRR and promotion.

Similar touring party as last time: a new face in keeper Sanath Berugodaarachchi (dawsoh) and a return for a possible last hurrah for stalwart Frank Enstein (Mr. Hunter).

A difficult start to game 1 (vs South Africa flat/cloudy) with both openers falling in the 3rd over.
J. Lansom (rf) 2-0-6-1, R. Kuruppuarachchi 0 (0b), A. Gajanayake 0 (1b)
End of over 3 (2 runs) - Sri Lanka(16-2) RR 5.33
