Summary for Game 3. Bangladesh vs Australia

Pitch: Uneven
Weather: Sunny

Australia won the toss and decided to bowl first. Bangladesh went with 6 bowling options in this match, 3 AR, 2 RF and 1 NBB RM.

The Bangladesh opening partnership has not great so far in the tour, with opening scores of 22 and 4 in earlier matches. This time too we lost our 1st wicket on 28 and 2nd on 33. The AR Rafique was promoted up the order, but he too departed when the score read 41. But Das and Nayak made sure we don't lose more wickets till drinks break, where scored read 82/3.

The Aussie rw, Curnow had already picked 2, and after the drinks he picked another 2 wickets in back to back overs. Scores read 88/5 now. Very soon we lost 2 back to back wickets, and were 94/7. Das who opened the innings watched all 7 wickets to fall from the other end, but saved one end vigorously. He reached his 50 and departed on 53 (highest scorer). Curnow the rw picked his 5th. and eventually Bangladesh managed 146, with a very crucial contribution of 33 by Srinath.

Aussies had a similar start, they too lost 1st wicket around 25, followed by 2 wickets in 1 over of Srinath. Aus was 34/3 at that moment. They started counter attacking with flurry of boundaries, which eventually lead to fall of wicket when they were at 60. By the drinks break they were 94/4, 12 runs more than what Bangladesh was at drinks but at the cost of 1 extra wicket.

Post drinks, Aziz struck twice. All of a sudden Aus was on a backfoot with 100/6. 47 needed with 4 wickets in hand. They kept the scorecard ticking and by the time Bangladesh picked the next wicket, the equation read 25 runs in 3 wickets left. With 13 runs to go, it was all about getting wickets for Bangladesh, and Arman managed to pick 2 in his last over! The Bengal tigers were back in the match. 1 wicket in hand, Australia needed 12 runs and a lot of luck on their side.

Alas, Australia won by 1 wicket.

Summary for game 4

West Indies won the toss and elected to bat.

Condition for the match were Dry/Sunny

Deciding to bat first seemed a good choice for WI. They started extremely well with only losing 1 wicket in the first 20 overs. At the halfway point of the innings, WI was managing a run rate of 5rpo which was impressive given the conditions, it looked like it was going to be a big chase for us! The WI top order performed quite well today, with most batsmen making starts which would leave it with us all to do. We managed to get several breakthroughs, however we could not capatilse when a wicket fell. Ultimately though, WI were bowled out for 237 which I believed to be a decent score given the conditions. Haider was the pick of the bowlers for us with 4-33.

In response, we honestly never looked like getting close to the WI score. We lost wickets pretty consistently which never gave us a chance. Our highest partnership was between Prasad/Ahmed for 32 runs which was never going to get us close to our target of 230+. In the end, we were bowled out for 137 in under 40 overs which was extremely disappointing. Prasad top scored for us with 40 (57).

Man of the match: Dane Small (3 points), Dadrian Polius (2), Shamsul Haider (1)

Game 1 of the ODI World Cup vs the UAE in Flat/Cloudy conditions.

UAE won the toss and put us in to bat first.
We made a decent start but ended up losing 2 wickets within the first powerplay.
However, good partnerships between Ravi Chawla and Karim Ahmed (59 runs), and Aminul Azam and Vinay Chopra (63 runs) saw us reach 299/9 despite a wobble at the end.
Karim Ahmed top scored with 59 but there were also important runs from Vinay Chopra (57), Ravi Chawla (52), and Aminul Azam (48).

Bowlers started off really well with 2 wickets in the first 3 overs.
UAE then had a 88 run partnership for the 3rd wicket but our bowling attack struck back right before the drinks break by picking up 3 more wickets, and continued in the same vein after drinks as we managed to dismiss them for 181 and win the game by 118 runs.
All bowlers picked up wickets but the pick was Shamsul Haider with figures of 7.1-1-24-4.

Game 2 vs the mighty Australians in Hard/Humid conditions.

We won the toss and opted to bat first where we made a decent start by keeping a decent RR.
At 90/2 we were approaching the drinks break with a decent score after which we could push on, but unfortunately the Aussie Fasties had other ideas and picked up wickets either side of the break, which saw us collapse to 113/5.
Captain Vivek Rawant then joined keeper Sachin Nayak and they both put on 81 runs for the 6th wicket. Another small collapse saw us go from 194/6 to 217/9 and it looked like we were done for, until captain Rawant decided to farm the strike which he did a spectacular job of.
From the last 24 balls he faced 21 of those and scored 41 runs to finish unbeaten on 93 and guide us to a competitive total of 260.
Special mention to Sachin Nayak for scoring 71 runs.

Our bowlers again made a good start by picking up 2 early wickets and kept up the pressure despite the Aussies getting a 59 run partnership for the 3rd wicket. Picking up regular wickets kept them under pressure and we were able to earn a 88 run win. All of our seamers picked up at least 2 wickets and the pick of the bowlers was Ishan Sen with figures of 8-0-34-4.
Special mention to Suresh Naik who ended up with figures of 10-2-26-2.

Game 3 vs New Zealand

NZ won the toss and elected to bat first.

Our bowlers provided us with a fantastic start by getting 4 wickets in the powerplay. By 18 overs we had them on the ropes at 74/6, after which their 7th wicket pair put on a 70 run partnership, but fortunately the bowlers came back and got them all out for 155. Pick of the bowlers were both Shamsul Haider (6-0-28-3) and Dishant Ganguly (7-1-28-3).

Our chase did not start well as we lost a wicket on the very first ball, and lost 2 more by the 11th over. The game was in the balance at 41/3, but Arafat Das then joined Karim Ahmed and both starred in a 4th wicket partnership of 76 runs which ensured that we would win by 6 wickets despite Karim Ahmed getting out for 49, which was also the top score for us. Arafat Das scored an unbeaten 35 and Vinay Chopra scored an unbeaten 26 runs.

Game 4 vs Kenya in Even/Sunny conditions.

Today's match review brought to you all by MuslimDave:

Opting to bat after winning the toss, Kenya aimed to set a formidable target. However, their innings faced early setbacks with tight bowling from Bangladesh's Sen and Arman. Despite resilient batting from Othenio Miheso, who scored a commendable 86 off 130 balls, Kenya's batting lineup struggled against Bangladesh's disciplined bowling attack. Arman's 4 wickets and Gupta's crucial contributions restricted Kenya to a total of 182 runs off 44.3 overs.

In pursuit of victory, Bangladesh faced early jolts losing key wickets. Chawla, Prasad, and Nayak's dismissals kept the match balanced. However, Das, supported by Chopra, steered the innings with a composed 24 off 34 balls, keeping the chase alive. Eventually, it was Chopra's unbeaten 33 and Sen's steady partnership that sealed the victory for Bangladesh, winning by 2 wickets.

Match Ratings

Batting - Top Order 12,745 14,631
Batting - Middle Order 14,327 14,077

With 4 wins from 4 games, we have confirmed top spot in Group 2 as well a place in the semi-final.

Next game is against the USA in Flat/Sunny conditions.

Game 5 vs USA in Flat/Sunny conditions

USA won the toss and opted to bat first.
We had another good start with the ball and picked up 4 wickets in the first 13 overs and even had them at 102/6 at one point, after which their lower order provided them with a wonderful rally and got them to 242.

Our chase started slowly and we lost regular wickets with only a 5th wicket partnership of 69 between Karim Ahmed and Vinay Chopra providing the only real resistance from our batting. We then lost our last 6 wickets for just 12 runs and were all out for 134. Top scorer was Karim Ahmed with 43.

Semi-Final vs India in Flat/Cloudy conditions

India won the toss and sent us in to bat first.

As was customary for us all tournament, we lost 2 wickets inside the powerplay but still provided a good show with bat, as the top 9 all scored in double digits and got us to 278. Sreesanth Singh top scored with 51 and Sachin Nayak scored 50.

Our bowlers also made a good start by getting 2 early wickets, but India then consolidated brilliantly with a 3rd wicket partnership of 119 and 4th wicket partnership of 82 guided India home to a comfortable 5 wicket win. Shofi Arman was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 9.1-0-34-2 in a game where all other bowlers went for at least 50 runs.

Our campaign was bound to come to an end given the way we started as it felt like we used up all our luck in the group stages, but it was a shame to see us lose despite scoring 278 on Day 6.

Match Ratings
Bangladesh India
Batting - Top Order 12,441 14,325
Batting - Middle Order 13,423 13,290
Batting - Tail 7,009 5,493
Bowling - Seam 13,737 (30) 15,185 (40)
Bowling - Spin 14,780 (20) 14,315 (10)
Fielding/Keeping 17,468 17,501
Overall 247,662 254,505

And with this match my time as Bangladesh NAT Manager has come to an end.

In 4 seasons we were able to get the team out of Division 2 in both formats and into Division 1 in ODIs and Division 2 in T20s, as well as a WC appearance in T20s after an absence of many seasons and a semi-final appearance in the ODI WC.

We went through many highs and lows together and I thank the Bangladeshi community for electing me and allowing me to be part of a wonderful community.
