Hi,

There are assistant manager roles available in the U20 set up for anyone that is interested?

The role will include scouting/monitoring players, engaging with the community in regards to tour details/summaries, feedback on selection/matchdays & finally setting up orders for friendlies (rare occasion tour line ups if I’m unavailable for any reason)

Chasing 188 to win, the pressure was on our bowlers. R.Gross 53 (67) was supported well by his counterparts & despite a late wobble, Canada held on to a 4 wicket victory finishing on 188/6 off 40.4 overs. I.Azad & M.Pal grabbing 2 wickets a piece.

2nd game vs Kenya on a flat pitch with Humid conditions.

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bowl.

After dismissing the opening set of batsmen, J.Ali 145 (132) & C.’Ole Saitoti 56 (51) combined really well to set a base for Kenya to prosper towards the latter part of the innings as they posted a score of 323/7 off 50 overs with J.Ali leading the onslaught. M.Shazada finished with figures of 10-0-68-3.

In response, Bangladesh came out fighting and despite being pegged back on numerous occasions with 2 batsmen falling cheaply, fought to get a grip on this game. G.Uniyal’s resilient knock of 97 (97) came to a end in the 42nd over and with that went our chance at victory as Bangladesh perished to 287 all out off 48.1 overs. O. arap Kibet finishing things off with figures of 9.1-0-44-3

Match Ratings
Bangladesh U20 Kenya U20
Batting - Top Order 9,982 9,170

3rd game vs South Africa on a slow pitch with sunny conditions.

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat.

Bangladesh got off to a reasonable start with decent contributions coming from the top 3 batsmen. The wheels started to fall off before drinks, as a few wickets fell cheaply including captain J.Badhani for a golden duck to leave Bangladesh fighting on 93/4 off 25 overs. We managed to lead a recovery courtesy of R.Manjrekar 79 (82) along with decent knocks of S.Kulkarni 25 (29) & R.Saleh 23 (19) in support as Bangladesh posted a total of 247/9 off 50 overs with 79 runs coming from the last 10 overs. There FS W.Homburg finished with figures of 10-0-61-6.

After dismissing the top three batsmen cheaply, South Africa’s middle order managed to fight themselves back into contention by reaching drinks break at 93/3, needing a further 155 runs for victory. K.Wyness 50 (65) & F.Esterhuizen 82 (102) continued the charge by reaching there 100 run partnership putting pressure on the bowlers before R.Sen got the big breakthrough. With 6 wickets in hand and 77 runs required from the remaining 10 overs, the stage was set for a nervy finish. Bangladesh managed to grab crucial wickets derailing South Africa’s progression by restricting them to 222/8 off 50 overs. R.Saleh finding form at the end with the ball with figures of 10-1-36-3.

Bangladesh won by 25 runs!

4th game vs Pakistan on a slow pitch with hot conditions.

Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat.

Pakistan openers, N.Bakht/F.Kardar 89 (116) got off to a great start and made Bangladesh pay for a early dropped chance as they cautiously navigated the first 10 overs before accelerating. It took until the 20th over for the first wicket to fall.. 2 balls later I.Azad strikes again. Pakistan continued to build on the foundations of the openers averaging 4/4.5 runs per over as Bangladesh chirped away grabbing wickets in key moments including opener F.Kardar 88 (127) in the 43rd, the last 10 overs went for 64 as Pakistan posted a score of 238/7 off 50 overs. I.Azad ending with figures of 10-0-43-4.

Chasing 239, our top order finally clicked and despite the early set back M.Modi/A.Dravid 83 (87) built a strong foundation for the batsmen to flourish with the latter being dismissed just before drinks as Bangladesh reached 125/2 off 25 overs. M.Modi/R.Manjrekar 104 (105) were in no mood to let off as they continued charging towards the target, unfortunately R.Manjrekar 50 (46) was dismissed just before Bangladesh could wrap up the victory posting a score of 239/3 off 43.3 overs. Opener M.Modi 127* (143) dropped on 98 & 105 brilliantly guiding Bangladesh from start to finish on way to a 7 wicket victory.

Final game vs Scotland on a slow pitch with hot conditions.

Scotland won the toss and elected to bowl.

LFM K.Coupar started off brightly taking 2 early wickets including the big scalp of M.Modi, the rest of the bowlers kept it tight as Bangladesh cautiously navigated a recovery through the opening period of the match, S.Dev/B.Mokammel 50 (91) combining together before being dismissed in the same over to leave Bangladesh with there backs against the wall come drinks at 105/4 off 25 overs. After a refreshing drink of some sort (looked like Prime) our batsmen decided to attack J.Badhani/S.Kulkarni 54 (45) whatever the cost adding runs at a faster rate whilst losing wickets in the process as Bangladesh were bundled out for 204/10 off 44 overs. AR S.Kulkarni 53 (59) getting us some valuable runs towards the end of our innings. K.Coupar & C.Dundas with 3 wickets a piece.

With a outside chance of promotion on the line for both teams, Scotland got off to a flyer making light work of our bowlers as they breezed to 65/1 off 13 overs before R.Sen got a vital breakthrough to slow things down. Sensing an opportunity, joint leading wicket taker I.Azad announced his arrival with a wicket maiden as Bangladesh turned the heat up pegging Scotland back to 91/4 off 25 overs. K.Dickson/M.Mackay-Steven 59 (89) led a fight back as a few heads started to drop from the Bangladesh side. In the 34th over disaster struck for Scotland, the partnership was broken sparking a chain reaction of wickets falling leading to there eventual collapse from 137/4 to 167/10 off 41.4 overs. E.Zia & I.Azad finishing with 3 wickets each with the latter being awarded the leading wicket taker award for his 11 wickets across 4 matches, this award was presented to him by MOTM S.Kularni 53 (59) & 8-1-23-1.

Attentions turned to Pakistan vs Kenya with every player scrambling to grab there phone and illegally stream the ending of the game. Suddenly loud cheers start to ring out from the Bangladeshi supporters (Pakistan Win) the management team don’t know it but they have clinched 2nd spot in the table and gained promotion to Division 2 courtesy of a 2 min lag on the stream. Jubilation, ecstasy, as the players run around spraying each other with non-alcoholic fizz. What a turn around!

Post Tour Review/Summary:
Well how do I start off, with the good or bad? Most people tend to go for good news first but I’m afraid things started badly for us with 2 back to back defeats in the opening fixtures against Canada & Kenya leaving us with a mounting to climb to salvage anything from the tour, promotion seemed dead and buried 2 games in. It was more like damage control. Up next was hosts, South Africa.. both teams looking for there first victory, it was a nervy encounter which Bangladesh eventually won. A sigh of relief from the players/coaching staff, first points on the board. Can we build on it was the questions asked from the media? M.Modi answered that question superbly the next day against Pakistan with a brilliant knock of 127* (143) seeing Bangladesh through from start to finish as we chased down a target of 238 making it back to back wins. Bangladesh fought themselves back into contention with question marks being raised on the possibilities of promoting and the stipulations required for that to happen after a few upsets throughout the league. Canada lead the pack with a high NRR making Kenya the target on the final day. Both Scotland & Bangladesh have a chance of snatching 2nd spot as long as Kenya loses. The stage was set vs Scotland, it seemed like Bangladesh got stage freight as they capitulated to 204 all out but against all odds they ended the game victorious making it 3 wins in a row. Now all that was left was for Pakistan to seal victory against Kenya which came 15mins later and the parties began. Bangladesh clinching promotion on the final day!!

I’d also like to apologise to Brew Boys (M.Shazada) & Mighty Tigers CC (Satish Jilani). My intention is always to play each player at least twice but due to the bad start to the tour and having to scrutinise each line up more thereafter i found no spot for them in the starting XI as we had stronger players available. Batting wise we had more depth allowing us to rotate more easily which is evident in the appearance statistics.. Which brings me onto the importance of training players to minimum Expert overall with Expert+/Expert+ primaries & fielding above reliable to give your player and the team the best chance of competing. We lose 5 batmen before next tour.. A.Dravid, R.Manjrekar, S.Dev, M.Modi & G.Uniyal. Next few friendlies will show if we can fill the void for the next T20 tour. Batting was our strong point this tour with bowlers being just above average. We need to keep working hard.

Thank you all for training players and supporting the Bangladesh set up.
