Irish League Senior Cup – S62

Post by crackit » Sat Jun 14, 2025 11:28 am

Welcome to the Irish League Senior Cup.

The 56 teams in tiers 1-3 of the Irish League, plus the 8 highest ranked sides in tier 4 automatically have a place in the draw on accepting.

Other Division 4 sides have the chance to fill any places not taken up: then later, all Division 3 and 4 sides not in round two of the cup be invited to compete in the Irish League Senior Plate.

Teams are invited in ranking order as the FTP coding uses the order of invitation to determine who does, and does not, make the draw should a cut need to be made. This ensures the above rules are applied and the strongest competition possible. Note: Despite being a T20 competition, One Day rankings are used.

Competition Details:
  • It is a knock-out cup.
  • There will be 32 or 64 teams, depending on how many accept.
  • The draw is random (there is no seeding).
  • Games played are T20 friendlies, so will not impact your players’ fatigue in league matches.
  • Games are played on a Saturday.
  • Local weather conditions are applied and the pitch prepared is at the whim of the home team’s groundskeeper (so randomly selected).
  • Entry is free. In return we ask that those who can please consider pulling Ireland youth players as their contribution; but this is voluntary and not enforced.
  • Both finalists win an award of Pavilion membership.
Our aim in running is to:
  • Develop a sense of identity, belonging and community to the Irish league setup.
  • Support the Irish national side by encouraging youth pulls where possible.
  • Have fun.
  • The cup also offers sides in lower divisions the chance to test themselves against higher league opposition.
We would love you to hit that accept button and please come join us.

Timeline
  • w/s Sunday 8 June: All invitations will be sent in rank order. Note: You may accept right up to the deadline, the top ranked teams accepting are included in the draw.
  • 19 July: Update - acceptances seemed to have stalled at 40, which means we will definitely have a Round of 32.
  • A lot of stronger teams have chosen to join Madcarrot's Zimbabwe Cup (which is their right, so no problem here, but I still hope a few get knocked out early  ). I want to acknowledge Madcarrot, not just because he is a good guy, but also the person who inspired me to setup the Irish League Cup and Plate competitions in the first place.
  • What it does do is increase other teams' chances; so why not chance your arm, if you haven't already entered? It would be great to get another 24 to ensure a Round of 64 for the first time.
  • Also, we have two new teams joined the Irish League; it would be great if you could join me in welcoming Blakezom and JTLewis1110. Welcome and good luck guys.

Updated
  • 2 August: Acceptance deadline and the draw is made with the 32 top ranked teams of the 41 entered. Apologies, to those who accepted the invite but didn't make the draw; you are guaranteed a place in the plate should you accept.
  • 9 August: Round of 32.
  • 16 August: Round of 16.
  • 23 August: Quarter-finals.
  • 30 August: Semi-finals.
  • 6 September: Final.

Welcome to
Not new to FTP, but it's their the first time in the Irish League Senior Cup draw:
  • #16 kato xi ( One Day 2.2 )
  • #19 Hunslet Parkside C.C. ( One Day 2.1 )
  • #38 North Saxe ( One Day 3.4 )
  • #39 Trinity ( One Day 3.3 )
  • #42 Meeting Mr Miandad ( One Day 3.1 )
  • #45 Western Suburbs Hacks ( One Day 3.3 )
  • #51 Chester Ducks ( One Day 3.2 )
  • #58 Shaktar Senseless ( One Day 3.3 )
Feel free to join in the chat. Here's a few questions to get you started... Can you see beyond Chesney Champions for a winner? If you're in the Zimbabwe cup, "hi there", who are you backing this season? Who do you think might be a surprise package? If you are in the draw, who do you expect to shine from your team? What do you think of your draw?

Quarter-by-quarter
A clash with the Zimbabwe Cup means that a number of the top teams are absent, but this means the draw might open up for someone else.

First quarter
Look here for example. #24 Corleone ( One Day 2.2 ), #29 Staindrop Lordies ( One Day 3.4 ), #32 Vegas Venoms ( One Day 3.3 ) and #34 The WaddiWallas ( One Day 3.2 ) may well be eyeing up that semi-final spot. One of the Lordies and The WaddiWallas will be left disappointed after the first round. Corleone play #58 Shaktar Senseless ( One Day 3.3 ), the lowest ranked team to make the draw. #48 Dunbrody CC ( One Day 3.4 ) v #51 Chester Ducks ( One Day 3.2 ) looks like it should be a close scoreline.

#32 Vegas Venoms ( One Day 3.3 ) v #46 Blwe Scavengerz ( One Day 3.1 ) Blwe Scavengerz won by 6 wickets
#58 Shaktar Senseless ( One Day 3.3 ) v #24 Corleone ( One Day 2.2 ) Shaktar Senseless won by 1 run
#48 Dunbrody CC ( One Day 3.4 ) v #51 Chester Ducks ( One Day 3.2 ) Dunbrody CC won by 15 runs
#29 Staindrop Lordies ( One Day 3.4 ) v #34 The WaddiWallas ( One Day 3.2 ) Staindrop Lordies won by 5 wickets

Blwe Scavengerz upset the rankings by beating Vegas Venoms despite Ricardo Jensen's unbeaten 73. An opening partnership of 127 between Alex Blackwell (74) and M. Sanson (54) had initially got them ahead of the comparison, but the rate of scoring slowed and it still needed a single off the final ball from Ivan Licuria to clinch the win.

Another close one as Shaktar Senseless defended a total of 177. Corleone needed a four off the final ball by Aravindan Nandedkar but his two runs left then on a tantalising 176. Franco van der Spuy (77*) starred in the first innings and Stephen Wafula was the meanest bowler, conceding only 29 runs off his four overs.

Dandy Fenton scored 100 not out for Chester Ducks, but still ended-up on the losing side. Dunbrody's fast bowler Sean Kane took 3 for 22 as they contained the Ducks to 172, 15 runs short of the target. Ethan Scully (83) top-scored in their total of 187. In the remaining game Staindrop Lordies secured the win with six balls to spare.

#46 Blwe Scavengerz ( One Day 3.1 ) v #58 Shaktar Senseless ( One Day 3.3 ) Shaktar Senseless won by 23 runs
#48 Dunbrody CC ( One Day 3.4 ) v #29 Staindrop Lordies ( One Day 3.4 ) Staindrop Lordies won by 8 wickets

Unlike round one these were not close. Ebbo Twentyman-Jones (4-20) and Marius Hills (4-26) held Dunbrody to 135; whilst Leslie Laidlaw scored 70 not out to help the Lordies chase down the win in 15.2 overs. Despite Scavenergerz's Topon Salahuddin taking 4 for 32, Shaktar comfortably secured another Senseless win to make the quarters.

#58 Shaktar Senseless ( One Day 3.3 ) v #29 Staindrop Lordies ( One Day 3.4 ) Senior rivalry 0-0 Shaktar Senseless won by 4 wickets

We have Shaktar as favourites despite their relative rankings, but we've been wrong before.
Shaktar win with the help of some senseless savagery. Despite a good start to the reply the Lordies pulled their way back into contention with four late wickets Abram Savage and Stephen Wafula got the runs needed with three balls remaining.

I am trusting Google to have given me the same translation as last year.

Quarter-by-quarter
A clash with the Zimbabwe Cup means that a number of the top teams are absent, but this means the draw might open up for someone else.

Second quarter
Our own #6 Applewood Crossing ( One Day 1.1 ) are hoping for a run to this year's final play #19 Hunslet Parkside C.C. ( One Day 2.1 ) and #26 All Leeds Aren't We ( One Day 2.1 ) lurk in the draw. We like the look of the #39 Trinity ( One Day 3.3 ) v #44 Dublin Devils ( One Day 3.4 ) matchup.

#6 Applewood Crossing ( One Day 1.1 ) v #19 Hunslet Parkside C.C. ( One Day 2.1 ) Applewood Crossing won by 8 wickets
#36 Ella XI ( One Day 3.1 ) v #52 Q Dragon Empire ( One Day 4.8 ) Ella XI won by 8 wickets
#39 Trinity ( One Day 3.3 ) v #44 Dublin Devils ( One Day 3.4 ) Trinity won by 7 wickets
#42 Meeting Mr Miandad ( One Day 3.1 ) v #26 All Leeds Aren't We ( One Day 2.1 ) All Leeds Aren't We won by 63 runs

Fred Crossman starred for Applewood Crossing with 5-36 before openers Arthur Farmer (93*) and Amir Nageswar (62) steadily steered the way for Applewood to allow accelerate to a winning finish with eight wickets but only three balls remaining. Similarly, Leonard Flores (83) and Sarath Bisomenike (58*) assuredly guided Ella XI to the next round.

Other notable contributors were Arjun Sen (80), Vibert Christiani (3-27) and Benny Medina (3-31) for All Leeds Aren't We; plus Wakil Jibran (67*) in Trinity's not so close as predicted win over Dublin Devils.

#6 Applewood Crossing ( One Day 1.1 ) v #36 Ella XI ( One Day 3.1 ) Applewood Crossing won by 64 runs
#39 Trinity ( One Day 3.3 ) v #26 All Leeds Aren't We ( One Day 2.1 ) All Leeds Aren't We won by 6 wickets

Two more not so close games and another Applewood five fer, this time Nafees Rasel (5-15). Rupert Iredale 65 featured in an easy win for All Leeds Aren't We.

#6 Applewood Crossing ( One Day 1.1 ) v #26 All Leeds Aren't We ( One Day 2.1 ) Senior rivalry 0-0

The predicted quarter-final and we're are still standing by our own Applewood Crossing to proceed.

Quarter-by-quarter
A clash with the Zimbabwe Cup means that a number of the top teams are absent, but this means the draw might open up for someone else.

Third quarter
#1 Chesney Champions ( One Day 1.1 ) begin their defence looking for "back-to-back-to-back" titles (Welcome to Wrexham viewers might appreciate that!) against v #22 Woodlands CC ( One Day 2.2 ). Coincidentally, Woodlands may also be looking for "back-to-back-to-back" titles in the Youth Plate.
Win this one and Chesney look dead certs for the semi-final.

#50 The Cross Lances ( One Day 3.3 ) v #56 Insane Inglewood Posse ( One Day 4.5 ) The Cross Lances won by 7 wickets
#47 Blazing Dragons Cricket Club ( One Day 3.2 ) v #40 Spingleberry ( One Day 3.4 ) Blazing Dragons Cricket Club won by 5 wickets
#1 Chesney Champions ( One Day 1.1 ) v #22 Woodlands CC ( One Day 2.2 ) Chesney Champions won by 8 wickets
#55 Balls Deep ( One Day 4.3 ) v #30 Billericay Bluebirds ( One Day 3.1 ) Balls Deep won by 6 wickets

All about the batters. Rory Christie (104*) took the lead for The Cross Lances in their win and Nuwan Roshan (66*) did much the same for the Blazing Dragons in two games with fairly close finishes. Then Marshall Lycett (85) took the champion Champions past likely their toughest test in Woodlands. And again Ubayd Hamdan (61) helped Division 4 Balls Deep go deeper into the competition.

#50 The Cross Lances ( One Day 3.3 ) v #47 Blazing Dragons Cricket Club ( One Day 3.2 ) Blazing Dragons Cricket Club won by 6 wickets
#1 Chesney Champions ( One Day 1.1 ) v #55 Balls Deep ( One Day 4.3 ) Chesney Champions won by 10 wickets

Oh dear! A bit of a mis-match but not really a surprise win for the champion Champions whilst Kurt Shinnick (71) did the business for the Blazing Dragons.

#47 Blazing Dragons Cricket Club ( One Day 3.2 ) v #1 Chesney Champions ( One Day 1.1 ) Senior rivalry 0-0 Chesney Champions won by 81 runs

I have said before, and I am sure will say it again; "Chesney are the one and only!" going to progress from this quarter.
Magnificent Marshall Lycett scored 101 and jolly John Jaggernauth steamrolled the Dragons' innings into a bit of a damp squib by taking 4-17.

Quarter-by-quarter
A clash with the Zimbabwe Cup means that a number of the top teams are absent, but this means the draw might open up for someone else.

size=125]Fourth quarter[/size]
#7 Donna's Kebabs ( One Day 1.1 ) are the team most likely to stop Chesney making the final. To do so they will first have to get past #12 Barnsley St. Peter's ( One Day 2.1 ), then likely #16 kato xi ( One Day 2.2 ) and probably #14 Rebel Spinners ( One Day 2.2 ).

#14 Rebel Spinners ( One Day 2.2 ) v #38 North Saxe ( One Day 3.4 )
#33 North Cardiff Cosmos ( One Day 3.3 ) v #45 Western Suburbs Hacks ( One Day 3.3 ) North Cardiff Cosmos won by 8 wickets
#16 kato xi ( One Day 2.2 ) v #49 Muggles Cricket Club ( One Day 4.6 ) kato xi won by 5 wickets
#12 Barnsley St. Peter's ( One Day 2.1 ) v #7 Donna's Kebabs ( One Day 1.1 ) Donna's Kebabs won by 7 wickets

The Kebabs began their tricky draw to the semi-final with a reasonably comfortable win over Barnsley St. Peter's. There were two centuries in the game Merlin Mafadzwa (102*) for Barnsley and Peter Wynter (103*) in reply for Donna. Next round the face the kato xi as expected despite Dinesh Dasgupta's 3 for 18 for the Muggles. Oscar Pearse's 82 makes the headlines for Rebel Spinners and Musawengosi Tekere (80*) for the coasting Cosmos.

#14 Rebel Spinners ( One Day 2.2 ) v #33 North Cardiff Cosmos ( One Day 3.3 ) Rebel Spinners won by 55 runs
#16 kato xi ( One Day 2.2 ) v #7 Donna's Kebabs ( One Day 1.1 ) Donna's Kebabs won by 73 runs

The Kebabs brushed aside the kato xi mostly thanks to big innings from both Danger Drake (117*) and Garton Morrisby (98). After Oscar Pearse (96*) and Timothy Cascarino (68) launched the Rebel Spinners to victory but Philip Kendrick (5-11) hit the Cosmos like a rogue meteor — fast, unexpected, and at extinction-level.

#14 Rebel Spinners ( One Day 2.2 ) v #7 Donna's Kebabs ( One Day 1.1 ) Senior rivalry 11-33 Rebel Spinners won by 5 runs

Still see the Kebabs as being hot to trot to the semis.
The Rebels proceed to the semis following this upset victory. Timothy Cascarino (55) scored the only half-century of the match, before Philip Kendrick took 3-19. All that was left for the Kebabs was that post-midnight feeling of a greasy, claggy, slightly shameful coating that clings to your palate like a culinary hangover.
