Preview
Year end and current rankings for Belmont CC (OD: 41; T20: 32) v Hammers CC (OD: 30; T20: 42) suggest it should be a close game.
Their Road to the Final
#49 Hammers CC (One Day 3.1)
The Hammers have plenty of batting options given their One Day and T20 line-ups are quite different where Hasnain Mahmood is the principal common factor. However in the Plate most of the runs have come from openers Robert Duminy and skip Marcell Perrin because of the two ten wicket victories. All members of the bowling attack have taken wickets with wrist spinner, Wasantha Kumarasooriya, doing most damage with ten. The Hammers pose offer a daunting prospect going into the final.
Round One v #54 Q Dragon Empire (One Day 3.3), won by 10 wickets
- QDE: 136-6 (20); H: 140-0 (12.3)
- MOTM: Marcell Perrin (86* and one catch)
Quarter Final v #68 Aripal Qalandars (One Day 3.2), won by 10 wickets
- AQ: 81-10 (20); H: 82-0 (8.3)
- MOTM: Wasantha Kumarasooriya (rws, 5-12 and one catch)
Semi Final v #48 Blwe Scavengerz (One Day 3.2), won by 69 runs
- H: 166-4 (20); BS: 97-10 (19.3)
- MOTM: Greg Bachan (lm, 4-20)
#51 Belmont CC (One Day 3.2)
Opener Reece Haymes has produced two big innings and captain Lynden Giampaolo has provided most support in the Plate. Ross Snooke and Jesus Snyder have had the most productive bats in the league this season. Belmont have used seven bowlers in the competition but their pace attack of Cole Watkins (8) and part-time allrounder Shaheen Taher (5) taking most wickets. Spinner Johnstone Cheserem can offer an effective alternative but was dropped for the semi-final due to the green pitch so might be missing for the final.
Round One v #67 St Johns Athletic (One Day 4.1), won by 58 runs
- B: 201-2 (20); SJA: 143-10 (14.4)
- MOTM: Reece Haymes (101 not out and one catch)
Quarter Final v #58 Chester Ducks (One Day 3.3), won by 50 runs
- B: 215-5 (20); CD: 165-4 (20)
- MOTM: Cole Watkins (rf, 3-23)
Semi Final v #47 Western Suburbs Hacks (One Day 3.4), won by 7 wickets
- WSH: 178-7 (20); B: 179-3 (20)
Our prediction: And I quote
"Hammers CC have emerged from the first round looking like the strongest team in the competition." and
"the Hammers CC have emerged from the first two rounds looking like the strongest team in the competition. The Hammers are my pick to go all the way (but we all know accurate my predictions are! Sorry hamsterj1312)". I am not going to change my opinion now.

#49 Hammers CC (One Day 3.1) v 51 Belmont CC (One Day 3.2)
[Senior Rivalry: 0-0]
Weather: Cloudy; Pitch: Green
Toss: Belmont CC won the toss and elected to bat.
Innings 1: Belmont CC 143-4 (20)
R. Haymes (64*), C. Upashantha (30*); A. Ranasinghe (lfm, 2-27)
Reece Haymes complied his third big innings of the Plate, holding down one end as Snyder, Park and finally Upashantha kept the scoreboard ticking for the most part. However they were really contained in two over spells (3-4 and 14-15). Ajith Ranasinghe in particular was tidy, economical and took two wickets for the Hammers.
Innings 2: Hammers CC 144-6 (18.2)
M. Darling (73*), J. Gladman (30); C. Watkins (rf, 2-27)
Belmont had a breakthrough in the first over courtesy of Cole Watkins who took the wicket of both openers. Two further wickets left the Hammers on 35-4 after 5.1 overs but still ahead of the comparison. A quick 25 run partnership off 20 balls by Pardon / Darling kept them that way. However, when Martin Darling and keeper Jake Gladman came together they put together the highest scoring partnership of the day (69 runs off 53 balls) steering the Hammers most of the way home before Gladman fell in 18th over. Darling then took charge hitting 14 of 15 runs needed for victory with a comfortable ten balls to spare.
Result: Hammers CC won by 4 wickets
Man of the match: Martin Darling
Not quite the fireworks of the Junior Plate final but nevertheless a competitive match; congratulations to both hamsterj1312 and Paddythereddog who both win an award of Pavilion membership.
That's it for another season, thanks for taking part and sticking with these updates, we look forward to meeting you all and hopefully some more of our Irish League counterparts next time round. Please spread the word if you can.
