Canada NT S45 & S46

Post by montyh » Sun Aug 02, 2020 6:22 pm

On behalf of Btuli, we’d like to thank the Canadian community for their support in light of Btuli’s election to NT Manager.

We intend on using this thread to announce touring parties, comment on squad members and discuss tactics & results.

Of course, we’d happily welcome any questions and comments. Feel free to post :thumbsup

Up first, an ODI tour which will be very important in determining WC qualification in S46. Vital that we maintain our Div2 position :)

Pitches are due to come out next week, at which point we’ll begin the appropriate squad selections.

The first friendly of the new term produced a convincing 130-run victory against an under-strength Zimbabwe side.

Good to see Moses and McGowan picking up runs, with our RFM trio of Bowden, Glenn and Salgado picking up 8 wickets between them. Given the conditions, we threw a spinner into the squad, Jaxson Baca, who was tidy and economical.

Looking to organise a friendly for this weekend to continue clarifying our tour selection ideas.

A tough loss against the Windies yesterday. Too many failures with the bat trying to set a total cost us dearly. As always, a useful exercise nonetheless.

OD tour hosting rights have been allocated, and we’ve won with Hard, Uneven and Sticky pitches. Feel free to drop us a message if you’re eager to learn whether your player is in the mix to tour. Squad will be announced a week today.

With two friendlies prior to the touring party being finalised, there are plenty of spots up for grabs.

Pretty much all the betting positions could be claimed, along with the final few bowling spots.

Will report back

A narrow victory vs. Pakistan helped finalise the touring party as follows:

Samson Blackwell (Even Lower Standards) - 3 OD caps
Travis Bowden (Lounge Lizards) - 3 caps
Eli Briggs (Caterham Crusaders) - 3 caps
Eddie Castro (The Dross) - 17 caps
Nathaniel Cochran (alien nation) - 3 caps
Gabriel Drew (Six appeal) - debut
Finley Glenn (Market Blandings CC) - 4 caps
Kian Greer (Cockatoos Cricket Club) - 7 caps
Darion Henderson (Moseley Park Canadians) - 6 caps
Seth Holden (The Dross) - 14 caps
Sonny Mccoy (Golden Hacks CC) - 18 caps
Deshaun McGowan (Cover point) - 3 caps
Trevor Moses (Garden of Cricket) - 14 caps
Reed Mullins (Thunder) - 22 caps
Teagan Oliver (The Mighty Imps) - 6 caps
Talon Pratt (Haze) - 3 caps
Darion Salgado (Allmänna Idrottsklubben) - 8 caps
Colt Winters (Schlong Odds) - 17 caps

A relatively experienced outfit, with a seam orientated selection. Fortunately, our pitches are Hard, Uneven, Hard, Hard, Uneven which is favourable for the selection.

Thanks to all the managers above for allowing us to borrow their players. Eyes on the skies...

Ha thanks Maiden. Here’s to hoping Game #5 hasn’t got much riding on it for us both, for the right reasons!

Victories over Pakistan and Netherlands put us in a very good position, we sadly lost the 3rd match against New Zealand but with two games to go against India and West Indies, we have a good chance of back to back promotions.

Whatever results bring today, given the NRR, tomorrow looks like it could be a winner takes all vs West Indies.

Well how different could this be! Winner of today's match likely Champions, loser likely misses out on promotion...

Winner takes all indeed. Our boys are ready for a final push - all the best to the West Indies, let's hope for an exciting game :thumbsup

We sadly lost the final game against West Indies and finished 3rd.

It was still a strong tour and carrying on the progress within the team.

Next up is the T20, friendlies are being organised in preparation of India's choices of Dry, Crumbling and Slow pitches.
A few changes within the 30 man squad are in process.

Yes a disappointing end to the tour, but I feel we're content with the outcome. Some important WC qualification points, which with 3 OD Tours ahead, maintaining our Div 2 status was important.

For everyone's amusement, I've reviewed individual performances and scored each player out of 10

Batsmen

Reed Mullins - 4 apps, 3 innings, 68 runs @ ave 22.66.
A subdued tour for our most talented and experienced batsman. Continues to struggle somewhat in competitive games.
Rating - 4/10

Gabriel Drew- 4 apps, 55 runs @ ave 13.75.
A difficult tour for the debutant. At 29y4y, will only improve and might be better for the experience.
Rating - 3/10

Nathaniel Cochran - 3 apps, 108 runs @ ave 36.00. 1 x 50
Reasonable tour, nothing special.
Rating - 6/10

Seth Holden - 3 apps, 139 runs @ ave 46.33. 1 x 50
Holden narrowly missed out on a ton, falling on 93 vs. Pakistan. One batsman who cashed in on the bat-friendly conditions.
Rating - 7/10

Sonny McCoy - 4 apps, 24 runs @ ave 6.00
A horrible tour including 3 ducks which has unfortunately put an end to his international career.
Rating - 1/10

Samson Blackwell - 3 apps, 132 runs @ ave 44.00. 2 x 50's
A good 2nd tour for Blackwell, who looks to have cemented his place as a key Canadian batsman.
Rating - 7/10

Trevor Moses - 3 apps, 136 runs @ ave 136.00. 1 x 50
An excellent average propped up by a great 97* to set up victory vs. India. A good tour for the experienced batsman.
Rating - 7/10

Keepers

Deshaun McGowan - 3 apps, 63 runs @ ave 31.50. 3 catches
Might have done better.
Rating - 5/10

Darion Henderson - 3 apps, 179 runs @ ave 89.50. 2 catches
Henderson carried his bat in game one to finish the Tour's leading run scorer. Would have preferred 3 more equal contributions but difficult to be too harsh with the rating given the statistics.
Rating - 7/10

All Rounders

Darion Salgado - 3 apps Batting: 51 runs (two innings). Bowling: 28 overs 9-101
The tours T2 highest wicket taker, good performance from the all-rounder.
Rating - 8/10

Colt Winters - 3 apps Batting: 17 runs (one innings). Bowling: 22 overs 7-80
Just the 1 innings for Winters, limiting his contribution with the bat. A few devastating OBB spells delivered an excellent ER of 3.64. A top player.
Rating - 8/10

Eli Briggs - 3 apps Batting: 10 runs (two innings). Bowling: 29 overs 6-154
Took some treatment going at 5.40 ER. Averaged 5.00 with the bat.
Rating - 5/10

Teagan Oliver - 2 apps Batting: 45 runs (two innings). Bowling: 20 overs 2-117
Difficult conditions for the spinner, so anticipated him to be more ineffective than the seamers. Rating reflects the difficult conditions.
Rating - 6/10

Bowlers

Talon Pratt - 2 apps, 20 overs 6-87
Unfortunate not to make 3 appearances after 4-49 vs. India. Did well in the 2 he did make.
Rating - 7/10

Finley Glenn - 3 apps, 28 overs 6-144
A little expensive going for over 5 runs an over, but an important part of the wicket-taking attack in Hard & Uneven. Decent displays.
Rating - 6/10

Eddie Castro - 3 apps, 29 overs 4-133
Took some treatment vs. Pakistan, otherwise was relatively unspectacular on tour. Would have expected more wickets, even in the challenging bowling conditions.
Rating - 5/10

Travis Bowden - 3 apps, 30 overs 4-139
Did some damage attacking at the top of the order NBB, but probably not to the extent required to go one better in the tour.
Rating - 5/10

Kian Greer - 2 apps, 15 overs 2-85
An attacking role failed to delivered the desired wickets. Joint lowest wickets haul for the attack.
Rating - 4/10

Well done to those who's players performed well!

A reminder to all those following - Canada needs to pick up 2/5 wins to qualify for the end of season T20 World Cup.

Looks a manageable target - although with the 'randomness' associated with T20 in play - can't be certain!

Aaron and Monty have led this T20 tour and have followed the first win against UAE with another comprehensive win against Sri Lanka.

Great batting performance gets us close to 200 on a hot dry pitch. Our spinners did really well after the pacers took some stick.

Next up are Pakistan, another undefeated team.
