Home Scotland U19
Away Zimbabwe U19
Ground The Grange
Match U19 One Day Friendly
Date 17 Jan 15 08:00
Crowd 7,998
Weather Humid
Pitch Uneven

Match report -
A cracking match to start our tenure saw Scotland in deep trouble at 2 for 3, but a steady partnership of 97 runs between Docherty and Asher got Scotland a foothold in the game. Loss of another 2 quick wkts had Scotland at 109/5 and again in a bit of trouble, but the Scot's long batting line up paid dividends as Scotland managed to score another 104 runs for just the loss of 2 more wkts to set Zimbabwe a challenging total of 214 to win.
Hoping for some early breakthroughs Scotland had Blair attacking the Zimbabwe openers, but a lacklustre spell saw Zimbabwe comfortably through the first 10 overs without the loss of a wkt, however the Scottish medium pacer Chalmers was on next a he made the breakthrough taking 2 wkts in his opening spell to again get Scotland back in the match. A steady fall of wkts saw Zimbabwe struggle to regain any momentum, apart from a spirited effort from their bowlers who managed to take Zimbabwe to 202 all out Giving the Scots a victory by 11 runs.
Special mention goes to Roderick Chalmers with his man of the match performance with ball taking 5 for 36 in 8.1 overs
Next Scotland are away to UAE

Allflattious wrote:Hi guys I was just going to raise the question of who we can try and get more managers to pull Scottish? This is obviously one of the problems that all of the smaller NAT communities face, whilst our youth team is at a fantastic level at the moment, which clearly bodes well for the future of the Senior Nat side, will this continue in the long term? This is clearly a question for the U19 managers as I am not in a position to comment, not being able to see the stats of the Scottish youth players.

If we feel there is a problem with longevity, or we decide that we would like to see more managers pulling Scottish what solutions do we feel are available? There is the most obvious, a youth pull competition, but this however requires financial outlay...

What does everyone think? I may well be raising something that doesn't need to be raised... Just thought I would throw the idea out there for people to comment/debate on.

Hi mate, yeah like Robh said, we will have some comps up and running which will hopefully create more intrest and youth pulls for Scotland. It's hard to get non supporters of Scotland to pull Scottish yths, as people will have their own favourite nation to pull for, but we can try, hopefully some free to enter comps will help a bit, and at the moment we do have some nice talented youths coming through, but as a smaller nation, we do need more people to pull for Scotland.
