Ireland U20 won by 3 wickets
K. Ward is tired.
A. Imad (rws) 6.1-0-32-0, K. Ward 4 (13b), D. Boyle 60 (133b)
End of over 44 (4 runs) - Ireland U20(149-7) RR 3.39

hard fought win over UAE w/ match winning innings from captain Boyle
Grads,

Boyle the first Irishman to score 1000 Nat runs as a youth.
Good to see. His initial selection was a punt ...the one to two 19yos we try and pick if they aren’t much worse than some of the 20yos who may tour otherwise. These usually don’t pay off from the beginning but he did well right off and we never had to think about it later.

We fought well vs west indies defending a low total but the collapse after drinks losing 3 wickets in 3 overs just killed our total. we were actually ahead of them at half way mark !!

On to the final 2 games to win them both & try to promote

Final youth game for Boyle, Hyde, O’Leary and Ray Kenny today.

Outside chance of promotion as well as relegation but most likely staying put in D2

Our ordinary bowling showed up on the last 2 games where we could not defend good totals on dry windy and dry sunny.

Yesterday was the worst bowling probably as we couldn't defend 268 on dry sunny after batters set up nicely.

Hope we have better bowlers coming up soon

Squad Selection this week for U20 T20 tour. Hope to promote from D3 to D2.

Our pitches are Hard, Uneven, Slow. So our bowling will be seam heavy & preference for Fs, FMs, & Ms in that order & picking 2 or max 3 spinners.

We also revamped the squad a bit, after age updates & letting go of those turned 21 & ones who will not make it to the tour.

Our T20 Tour starts next week. Pitches we got were Hard, Uneven, Slow.

Keeping in line with this, we decided on 10 bowlers with 2 ARs - 1 spin AR & 1 seam AR & 8 batters. We decided to go with split of 8 seamers & 2 spinners, given the pitches.

The ARs were obvious choice - we had only 2 - Congreve (RFM) & Slattery (RFS). Congreve on reli form only accom bowling summary is still a worry.

Spinners was a toss up between Kenny (RWS) or Rourke (RWS) - we went with Kenny.

We went seam heavy & also giving our upcoming Fs a chance - 4 Fs, 3 FMs, 1 M.

The batters was an interesting choice with Reid, Regan being automatic. We also picked White due to his higher power & Lynch. For the other 4 spots, our WK were better than our pure batters, so we ended up picking 4 WK in this tour. Boyne who toured before was unlucky to miss out, but is definitely in the mix & might find a spot next tour.

Eamon Reid
White
Regan
Lynch
Tynan (WK)
Maturin (WK)
Halpert (WK)
Bolger (WK)
Slattery (RFS AR)
Congreve (RFM AR)
Patrick Kenny (RWS)
Liam Tone (RF NBB)
Deane (RF)
Champman (RF)
Healy (RF)
Finnegan (RFM)
McCabe (LFM OBB)
Brennan (RM)

We got uneven, hard, hard, slow, hard. Would have liked one more uneven

We'll give it our best shot to promote.

Quite a few faces in this tour due to age retirement.

narrow defeat in 1st game & thrilling win in the 2nd - hopefully keeps us afloat. Our spin cupboard really bare & we ended up 152k MR yesterday & managed to beat 170k Bermuda !!! Great escape from jail.

Hope we can chase down 170 today. Good bowling performance after a big 2nd wkt partnership restricted USA to 169 on cloudy crumbling.

Maturin doing a fabulous job.
