Match Details
Home New Zealand U20
Away UAE U20
Ground Dry Crack Memorial Oval
League U-20 One Day 1
Date 30 Oct. 23 09:00
Crowd 20,000
Weather Cloudy
Pitch Slow

New Zealand won the toss and sent UAE into bat.

Qaraja dropped on 4 in the 4th over, goes on to make 67.
Omer out for 11 in the 10th over.
Qaraja and Donquixote put on a 50 run partnership before Don departs for 23.
Ahmed dropped on 1, goes on to make 20.
Bishr dropped on 20, goes on to make 69.
Najeeb should have been runout for a diamond duck, goes on to make 37.

The missed chances helping us to set a target of 260. Nonetheless some great batting performances from Bishr and Qaraja with plenty of support from the others.

Oh here we go we all thought. Lord dropped on 19, fortunately is dismissed the next over, the drop costing just 2 runs.
Murat breaking a 50 run partnership and then getting the set bat out the ball before drinks.
A missed stumping followed up immediately with a clean bowled by Wareham.
A runout for the Don and Sheikhs maiden international wicket as the NRR climbed.
Watt dropped on 39 (ended unbeaten on 64) but a wicket down the other end in the same over.
A drop in the last over that cost just one extra run, we hold on to win by 18 runs.

Skipper Bishr (69) and Qaraja (67) the best two performers for us. We also got undeniably lucky with dropped catches with more than 150 runs coming from the second life’s our batsmen were given compared to New Zealand who only profited 29 runs from the missed chances.

Around the ground Ireland were handed another advantage gaining a +3.96 NRR and England held onto beat the Aussies in an absolute thriller.

Up next, we hope to upset some of that luck the Irish are having. πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ͺ

We win against Ireland and make it 2/2.

Superb bowling from Kareem 3/16 and Rashad 4/16 meant Ireland could only set a target of 150. After a nervous start Saleem and Ahmed dug into see the chase through with 14 overs and 7 wickets to spare.

Around the grounds New Zealand beat England and Australia beat the West Indies, meaning we sit top of the table after 2 matches.

It goes without saying, the hard work for the week starts here with all 3 (England, WI and Australia) all rating well over the 170k mark already this week.

Huge start! But yes still 3 big games ahead. My two lads have started slow, hopefully saving themselves for a couple of big ones at the back end of the week

A big win against England built mostly around Dhuls 70 and Murats 5 wickets.

Yesterday’s win means we will avoid relegation this week which was our major goal for the week and will go a long way to locking away a spot in the next World Cup.

We now turn our attention to the West Indies. πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ͺ let’s go win a Div 1 title lads.

Bat first. Bat big. Win.

A saying as old as time itself.

236 thanks to 62 from Qaraja and some late pinch hitting from Qasem and Omer.

The bowlers than all contributed to bowl the West Indies out 54 runs short of their target.

Around the grounds: Australia held onto beat New Zealand despite a strong New Zealand batting performance and England held out Ireland.

It’s time for maybe the easiest mathematical methods with moose ever:
Tomorrow against Australia
Win = win title.
Lose little = win title.
Lose large = Australia win title.

All 3 matches tomorrow are important, the other two are essentially (give or take a few scenarios) shootouts to remain in Div 1. Win = in.

Sri Lanka and the Netherlands look poised to step up to Div 1 whilst USA and India look likely to drop down to Div 3. Canada* and Kenya look likely to escape Div 3. Plenty to play for tomorrow.

Tune in at 0900 it’s the great enemy, Goliath, Australia. Just remember lads if it bleeds we can kill it. Let’s go win a Div 1 title.

We went with option 2, my lord.

Lose little = win Div 1 title.

I think the lads may have known the equation and decided to save beating the Aussies for when it matters (hopefully a World Cup final).

Absolutely stoked to win a Div 1 title! Probably just beginners luck but let’s try and ride that for as long as possible.

After the Aussies had batted I felt we’d probably given away 20-25 runs too many. Our bowling performance was pretty tidy bar one ridiculous over where a bowler took a quality leg spinner for 22 runs.

All bowlers contributed but the Aussies are strong and they made 229 our target. Contributions from most of the top order saw us get to 200 and be exactly that 23 runs away from winning.

Ultimately we knew with a match in hand we could afford to lose and the title was locked away about halfway through our chasing innings.

It’s fantastic to win a title in a week where I genuinely thought we would be fighting hard to avoid the drop. The quality of our spinners and bats really shone through this tour and it was great to see.

6 of the touring squad age up before the next tour and we thank them for their contributions as Youth Nat players:
Alam Bishr - ends his Nat youth career with a batting average of 117 (across three innings, only dismissed once)

Akil Dhul - ends with a batting average of 50.5 (101 runs over 3 innings including one not out).

Zaki Kareem - 13 wickets over 10 YOD matches. Kareem has been a stelwart for quite a few tours now and it’ll be sad to see him go. His best return 3/16 against Ireland.

Ala Qasem - just the two outings for Ala Qasem but 4 wickets and 31 runs at a strike rate over 100 is nothing to sneeze at. Also captain the lads to a win against the West Indies.

Baligh Rashid - 3 matches, 3 catches and 48 runs.

Jumah Omer - averaged 42.25 at a strike rate near 100 over his 5 match career. Just the one catch and one stumping.

We thank all the above players for their service and thank all managers who have trained and produced UAE players.

We move our minds to the next tour, T20!
