A disappointing season comes to an end with us losing out on a semi final spot by 2 runs! One bad loss to Bermuda cost us in the end.

S46 - NOD2 Tour 1

Post by rkpny » Tue Dec 08, 2020 8:04 am

A bit late to post this, but first NOD tour started yesterday. We have 3 new faces in the squad -

Angelo Mathews (The Bengals - bura)
Dilum Nandana (Minor Mashervania - MightyMasher)
Indika Kumaratunga (Paul's Spurs - Paul0774)

Probably the last tour for these 2 (assuming I can ever convince my assistants  ) and a few other oldies
Dayasiri Wijesiriwardene
Sujeewa Makkin Salih

We had a miraculous escape in Game 1 with Ariyasiri David taking a hat-trick to end the game and get us the win! He ended up with 5/21 and we won by 4 runs!

Game 2 is against Bermuda

S46 - NOD2 Tour 1

Game 2 was a big win against Bermuda (although late wickets made it look closer).

David was again the star, taking 4/14 in 7. Luvis and El Toro took another 5 between them.
The openers put on 76 to get us close and although we lost a bunch of wickets at then end, we won with 19 over to spare.

Game 3 against Australia was a heartbreaker- lost by one wicket. Kumaratunga did will with a 50 and Enstein took 3 wickets, but wasn't enough in the end to get us the win.

Game 4 is against UAE. A win will ensure we stay in Div 2 and potentially keep promotion chances alive.

Game 4 was a big win against UAE. David with the ball and (4/32) and Kodituwakku with a captain's knock (72*) were the stars.

Game 5 was a close win against India. We managed to squeak through and win by 4 runs. Good knocks by Nandana (86) and Partey (64) took us to 238. The bowlers did enough to get us the win. Enstein was the best with 3/49

4 wins wasn't enough for us to promote though. India and Australia pushed us down to 3 on NRR

S46 - T20 Tour Review

Post by rkpny » Sun Jan 17, 2021 3:59 am

I have been absent far too long here! Time to at least summarize the tours!!!

Game 1 vs Zimbabwe
The tour got off to a great start for us with a 9 wicket win.
Zimbabwe got to a decent score of 130/6, but we chased it down comfortably with 2.4 overs to spare. Kobbekaduwa 73* (44) and Irfahan 44 (42) were the stars with the bat, while Salih took 3/29.

Game 2 vs Kenya
Another good one for us as we won by 16 runs (though it was much more comfortable than the final margin).
Kobbekaduwa 65* (48) and Kaushal 43* (37) added 94 in 12 overs to take us to 160/3. Enstein and Luvis took 2 wickets each to restrict Kenya to 144/7

Game 3 vs Bangladesh
Bad loss for us as we lost by 38 runs. Came back to haunt us in the end.
David 3/12 and Ajireen 3/10 did a great job (although the seamers compensated by giving up runs) and restricted Bangladesh to 123/7. We got off to a good start at 59/2 and from there we collapsed to their spinners and ended at 85/10. Pretty poor display from the middle order.

Game 4 vs South Africa
Another loss as we lost by 2 wickets.
Kobbekaduwa 44 (38) was the star again with bat but no one else supported and we collapsed from 79/2 to 98/10. Ajireen 3/22 was the pick of the bowlers and all the other bowlers did their job, but just wasn't enough as SA won with 5 balls to spare.

Game 5 vs UAE
This was a must win and we managed to win by 10 runs.
Nandana 50 (41), Isfahan 34 (34 ) helped us get to 149/8. David 4/29 was the pick of the bowlers and Enstein picked up 2 wickets.

The table below pretty much says it all.

Code: Select all

Standings
Pos	Team Matches	Wins	Losses	Ties	Points	NRR	For	Against
 1	Bangladesh	5	3	2	0	12	+0.4407	620 / 98.5	557 / 95.3
 2	Kenya 5	3	2	0	12	+0.3939	642 / 99.1	608 / 100.0
 3	South Africa	5	3	2	0	12	+0.2415	546 / 92.5	564 / 100.0
 4	Sri Lanka 5	3	2	0	12	-0.0027	623 / 97.2	635 / 99.1
 5	Zimbabwe	5	3	2	0	12	-0.0852	686 / 100.0	676 / 97.2
 6	UAE 5	0	5	0	0	-1.0299	575 / 100.0	652 / 96.1
5 teams won 3 games and that loss to Bangaldesh meant our NRR wasn't good enough to promote.

S46 - NOD 2nd Tour review

Post by rkpny » Thu Jan 28, 2021 6:42 am

Game 1 vs Zimbabwe (again)
This time, Zimbabwe got their revenge with a big win that pretty much lost the tour for us.
151 from their opener Chidyasiku took them to 273/7 and we never got back into the game and lost by 74 runs. Kumaratunga with 73 was the lone bright spot.

Game 2 vs UAE
We managed to squeak a win by 16 runs.
Kobbekaduwa with 59, Irfahan 39 and Enstein 34 (33) helped us get to 236.
UAE looked like on their way to a win at 155/4 but wickets from Ajireen (3/42) and Mathews (4/52) won the game for us.

Game 3 vs Scotland
Won by 48 runs to keep promotion hopes alive!
Nandana 52 (66), Kumaratunga 87 (115) and Bowen 38 (39) helped us get to 231.
Bowen took 5/50 to help restrict Scotland to 183.

Game 5 vs NZ
We needed to win or Zimbabwe to lose for promotion. unfortunately, neither happened :(
We were never in the game as we were bowled out for 124. Vethanayagam with 44 was the best bat. NZ won by 8 wickets with 18.4 overs to spare. Not much to speak for on the bowling side.

Once again, we got close to promotion, but not enough. That ends a disappointing season where we won 3 games each tour but did not promote in any of them :P

The good news is we know we can beat anyone on the day which is great in a WC scenario.

The bad news is we know we can lose to anyone as well.

I'm still confident we can get to the knockout stages at least :|

Looks like more of the bad news in games 1 and 2 unfortunately. Hopefully that can still change.

Season 46 - WC

Post by rkpny » Wed Feb 17, 2021 7:22 am

WC is here and hasn't really started well for us :x

We have a couple of players making their debuts -
Ashok Millawabandara (Marvellous XI)
Sarath Razick (Gloster Gladiators)

Razick is going to be playing more as a Captain-bat!!

Game 1 vs Netherlands
Not much to say about this game. Netherlands won the toss and made 242. We were never in the game and lost by 86 runs. Best of the lot was Vethanayagam with 51 (79).

Game 2 vs WI
Again not much to be happy about. We allowed WI to get to 299/7 on a Green track! Bowen was the best with 2/38. We managed to get to 252/9 with Mathews being the best with 83*(87).

Hope we can salvage something in the remaining 3 games.

Hope we can salvage something in the remaining 3 games.
Game 3 vs Ireland
We won the toss and elected to bat. Ours bats did a great job to get us to 238/5 on Crumbling. Vethanayagam again batted well and made 73*(77). Nandana scored 59. Enstein and Razick aded 43 for the 6th wicket.
The bowling was tight and we bowled them out for 131 to win by 107 runs. Niroshan Chetty (4/31) and Dhanayake (3/18) were the pick of the bowlers.

Game 4 vs Bangladesh
We won the toss elected to bat on a Crumbling pitch. Good batting at the top set us up for a big score but we lost the plot and went from 160/3 to 191 allout. Irfahan was the best with 57 and everyone else at the top chipped in with 20s.
Bangladesh got off to a good start at 41/0 in 10, but then our spinners took the game away from them with all 10 wickets between them, restricting them to 112. Ajireen 4/21, David 4/21 and Chetty 2/25.

With one game to go, India have qualified and we have 4 teams with 8 points for the second semi spot from Group 1.
We need to win against India and hope NRR goes our way for a change this season!

Game 5 vs India
We won the toss and elected to bat. We got off to a slow start at 50/3 in 15, but the a smashing hundred from Pieris 110*(127) with good support from Matthews 32(51), Irfahan 26(22) and Enstein 18*(16) pushed us to a pretty good score at 247/6
2 quick wickets from Matthews in the 9th over put them on the back foot, and they never recovered, and were bowled out for 181. Seam bowlers shared all the wickets with Millawabandara taking 3/36

But once again, we fell short of qualification, as Netherlands won with enough overs to spare to make it to semis on NRR.
Bad NRR has been the story of our season :(

With that, I am going to take a break from NATs. Hopefully someone (paulc or levosace?) will step in and take us to the next level.

I'd like to thank all the Managers who have trained the NAT players and my assistants - TopManager, Weldone and Lesvosace for all their help.
