Re: Quick Questions V4
What sort of factors should I be considering for whether to bat first or second?

Re: Quick Questions V4
I have a really stupid question... I've been playing the game since 2016 and although I get my batsmen to the spectacular and above for batting, tech, experience and power I somehow rarely get their average above 30 and never above 35 for One Day, when playing more than 15 games.
Orders are almost always normal and they do score 50s and 100s, but never consistently.
And my pitches are normally uneven, because of my bowling attack.
Is a 30 batting avg good for One Day?

I think it's a good avg when you look around. It's more of a bowler friendly game.

Bolwer friendly game... Aha... That confirms a long term theory I had.
I'm going to try to change my pitches from uneven to hard and see if that has an effect and track the progress. I just wish the Hard pitches was a little more spicier, because it almost feels like another version of Flat.

Re: Quick Questions V4
Not entirely true. It's dependent on the pitch and weather conditions. There are a number of combinations of pitch/weather where you will find the batsman are very much favoured or at least even to the bowlers.
Of course if all your matches are played in bowler friendly conditions you will be led to believe it's a bowler friendly game.

I agree with what heppa said. The game isn't necessarily bowler-friendly, just has more bowler friendly pitch options than ones that are entirely bat friendly.Plaatkoek wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 6:45 amBolwer friendly game... Aha... That confirms a long term theory I had.

I consider uneven, sticky and crumblers to be entire bowler friendly most days but I have chased down 250+ on uneven on the odd day
Flat is almost entirely bat friendly.
Hard, Slow, Dry, Green are flaky. usually around like the 200-225 but their range of deviation from mean can be massive, and I find them insanely affected by weather in comparison as well. Again, my opinions, and I have never been wrong statistically ever.
hard can definitely have days where it acts like an uneven, and it is fairly luck based. a few managers complain that hard is like an uneven a bit too often for their liking so it is luck based entirely

Re: Quick Questions V4
Pitches:
Of the 652 games that I've kept record of:
Only 22% was played on Flat or Hard (batting friendly)
And what I've observed is that most managers (I play against) don't use batting friendly pitches (Flat, Hard), unless they want to neutralize your bowling attack or is very weak in batting.
Weather
Obviously we have no control over the weather, but it is really only Sunny that is more batting neutral.
And of the 652 games I've tracked, 24% was played in Sunny conditions.
So I do agree that this is more inclined to be bowler friendly because there are more variables to play with to make it bowler friendly. And it shows in the averages of the top batsmen.
If you look at the previous season's top 3 batsmen in One Day 2.1.
Avg 39: https://www.fromthepavilion.org/player. ... Id=2184601
Avg 35: https://www.fromthepavilion.org/player. ... Id=2167996

And Season 51 for One Day 2.1:

Avg 36: https://www.fromthepavilion.org/player. ... Id=2170480
Avg 35: https://www.fromthepavilion.org/player. ... Id=2271434
And Sri Lanka who is currently number 1 in SOD first 3 batsmen:
Avg 26: https://www.fromthepavilion.org/player. ... Id=2144004
Avg 30: https://www.fromthepavilion.org/player. ... Id=2126464

To be honest: I don't want to change the game or any variables or mechanisms... I'm just trying to understand what is stats for a good vs exceptional batsman in the game. And it seems that the real world (except South Africa - because their batsmen are now useless

Is that a fair point?

Re: Quick Questions V4
I'd say 30 is about standard, 35 is good. Batsmen who play further down the order (5-7) will probably struggle to even reach 30 as they won't face enough balls to get the big scores that top of the average.Plaatkoek wrote: ↑Wed Dec 28, 2022 8:38 amI have a really stupid question... Is a 30 batting avg good for One Day?
As an example, this player is World Class summary batsmen, but barely averages 30. In 90 senior one-day matches (and 79 t-20s) he's never made a senior century.

If you see a player averaging 40+ it's probably because they've played many matches against much worse opposition/bots.
