*A Podcast with RiSo*

Harsha: Hello everyone and welcome to this exclusive podcast with Indian nat manager, Riso. Welcome Riso, thank you for taking out time from your busy schedule.

RiSo: My pleasure Harsha.

Harsha: How are you feeling after such a rollercoaster of a tour?

RiSo: Exhausted. Still trying to cope up with the relegation. It's the worst feeling tbh, feels like a knockout punch. But that's what sports is all about. Not all days are the same. There will be highs followed by lows, which you turn into newer highs! No matter what, you have to get up, and regain your composure. So yeah, I think the team is moving on with even stronger resilience.

Harsha: In the hindsight, What went wrong that could have been avoided, and would the result be different?

RiSo: Harsha, Anyone can look in the hindsight and point at the mistakes made by them them or others. Its the easiest thing to do, isnt it?. While I look back at my mistakes, I definitely stand to learn from them! For instance: Kumble had a plop right before the tour! It was the first blow we had even before the tour begun! And it costed us big time. All 3 matches Kumble was part of, we lost! The only 2 matches he didn't play we won! But going into the tour, we had to pick 2 AR; and we chose Kumble as our spin AR. Other mistake could have been Sutariya as keeper, when we had Ankush Upadhyay a BH as keeper as well. But Sutariya was picked for his Capable form. Apart from these 2, maybe we can now say we should have batted first in the last 2 matches, instead of bowling first. But all this is hindsight Bias.

Harsha: Well Div 1 doesn't allow scope for many mistakes. How tough is it to manage a team in div 1 and that too a team with Legacy like India?

RiSo: It is tough Harsha. The kind of Legacy DPK has established, it just raises the expectations each time team India is playing a match! And tbh, that's a motivating factor as well, which keeps one on the toes at all times. As a new and first time manager, I want to make a mark of my own! Definitely this result was disappointing, but this is where I would get to learn more about the challenges of managing a national side. If we were merely finishing 3-4 on the table, those 'successes' if I can call them that, would not have taught me much than this setback. I stand to prove more than ever why I am the right guy for the job if I can bring back team India to div 1, where it belongs.

Harsha: Any major changes in the squad we can expect?

RiSo: Oh yes, most certainly. There are some massive holes which are glaring at us to be filled. We are struggling with an aging squad, especially in the spin department. With big names like Babariya leaving us in the recent past, many more absences will cost us in the upcoming seasons. I will be contacting managers of potential players to help us in this context.

Harsha: How did the Indian community react to the tour?

RiSo: Unfortunately Harsha, the Indian community has not shown much interest. Neither here in the forums, nor over our discord channel. I had asked twice if anyone would like to be national assistant, not a single manager showed any interest. It seems like they are either too busy or its too much effort. Yes it is upon me and my team to stir up the conversation every now and then, and I hope this podcast does the needful. Having said that, I am sure they support us, but sometimes supports need to be showed as well.

Harsha: That's all I had to ask RiSo, If you have anything to add..

RiSo: Just would like to say, Thank you for being a team India supporter. If you are disappointed with the result, I can understand. We have taken a fall, but we will come back stronger. I hope to see you guys rooting for us like always. Cheers!

Harhsa: Cheers RiSo! Thank you once again everyone for tuning in. Until next time, Take Care.

A very interesting and good read.

Doing something like this maybe a couple of times per season would be great, as aspiring NAT/U20 managers would learn some things about national management in the game.

What's the plan of the nat think-tank to replace the 31 year old all-rounders who are now plopping? Have you identified the younger lot to replace them as it looks like it's the lack of real all-rounders which is hurting the team. Replacing 31 years with 30 year old are just a makeshift strategy but we need more players in the 27 to 29 year group who can represent us for a couple of seasons minimum if not more.

Also are our current crop of batting talent so bad that we need to keep a 29 year plus batsman with accomplished experience in the squad, that too with no special talent?
These days we see players with better experience at u20 level.

Thank you for brining this to our notice. This was your biggest contribution to the national side in years! Wish you had contributed like this when you were the national assistant and part of team management. During your assistant days you were absolutely no where to select the squad and even during the tour you stopped giving any inputs because of your ego. But still thank you once again. Coming to that player, he wasn't selected for any tour or did any damage as such, so I wouldn't stress about this going ahead.

We have identified 3 ARs Kedia, Shetty And Bardoliya; who are added to the squad. Apart from these there are no ARs who can represent India in near future and that will definitely hurt us. But we have to make most of what we got. I see no reason why having specialist bowlers and batters cant win us matches! Thats how I will like to take this team ahead.

Squad announcement for exciting 5-Match Home Tour on Challenging Pitches

Mumbai, December 12, 2024:

We are all set for an exciting and challenging 5-match home tour, scheduled to take place on crumbling, slow, and even pitches that are sure to test the mettle of both the batters and bowlers alike. The Indian cricket board is thrilled to announce an 18-member squad, handpicked to take on these testing conditions with flair, adaptability, and skill.

The squad is brimming with talent across all departments, from aggressive top-order batters to versatile all-rounders and sharp bowlers. Here is the team that will step up to the challenge and aim to dominate the home series:

Batters
Tess T Culls – A dynamic batter known for his resilience and adaptability to tough conditions, Tess will play a crucial role in stabilizing the innings on the slow surfaces.
Mayur Kaul – A stable opener combined with a flair for aggressive play, Kaul will be key to laying the foundation for India's innings every time he steps in.
Tarul Thadgiri – With his unorthodox stroke play, Thadgiri will look to take advantage of any loose deliveries, even in testing conditions. This is set to be his last tour, India will look to make most of his experience.
Sukhdev Hazare – Hazare’s ability to read the pitch and tackle spin will be vital to build partnerships in the middle overs in challenging conditions.
Raghvendra Gujarati – Known for his steely determination, Gujarati will be one of the mainstays in navigating tricky situations in the middle lower order.
Bittu Pawar – Our search for a powerful finisher role ends at Pawar. Once he gets going, no target is beyond his reach.
Amul Subramanian – Veteran, skilled technician and cool-headed, Amul will be crucial in executing partnerships and setting the tempo throughout the match.

Wicketkeepers
Zakirhusain Sarwate – A new addition to the squad, Husain is a sharp and agile wicketkeeper-batter, Sarwate will play an important role both behind the stumps and with the bat.
Ankush Upadhay – India's favorite WK Boundary Hitter, Ankush's role will be crutial in this tour.

All-rounders
Sanmath Shetty – A right-arm medium pacer with the ability to swing the ball both ways, Shetty’s opening capabilities make him an asset for the team in these tough conditions.
Mahendra Chadda – A New ball right-arm fast-medium bowler, Chadda brings the energy and aggression needed to penetrate the opposition’s defense while also being capable with the bat.

Seamers
Hintendra Sinha – What Sinha may lack in pace, he makes up with impeccable line and length, Sinha’s performance will be key in challenging the opposition's batters.
Aryadeva Suthar – A left-arm seamer with great control, Suthar will be lethal with his deadly Yokers.
Amit Visvanathan – A LFM with seam movement will provide a unique dimension to the attack.

Spinners

Sendeem Walkin – A leg-spin wizard, Walkin is set to turn the game around with his variations, especially in the latter stages of the innings.
Moeen Ali – A seasoned spinner with a deceptive Dusra, Ali's vast experience and strategic mindset make him a major threat in slow and crumbling conditions.
Kapilraj Iyer – Another highly skilled right-arm off-spinner, Iyer’s ability to deceive the batter with flight and adjust to the pitch’s nuances will be vital.
Wendell Borton – Borton’s accuracy and sharp turn will be integral in taking quick wickets, especially as the pitch starts to crumble.

Head Coach's insight:
"We have a squad that is well-balanced and adaptable to the challenging conditions we are expecting during the series. Our batters are well-prepared for the slower pitches, while the bowlers—especially the spinners—are going to play a pivotal role. With this lineup, we are excited to put on a thrilling performance and give our fans something to cheer for," said the Indian team’s head coach and assistant, Mr. Coachendra Singh Coachala.

What to expect: Looking Ahead
India’s 5-match home tour promises to be an enthralling contest, with crumbling, slow, and even pitches offering a true test of cricketing skill. The team is geared up for a challenging yet exciting series as they look to make the most of these conditions and secure a dominant victory on home soil to promote back to Div 1.
