Not the best start to our t20 tour and the new format. Tough loss to Scotland where our bowlers leaked too many and our bats never got motoring.

We finish the first week of the new format tours with 3 wins and 3 tight losses keeping our NRR respectable and sitting 4th in the group.

Afzal has stepped away from the assistant role and we thank him for his time as assistant.

This means we have a wonderful opportunity for an interested manager to come on board as an assistant for the remaining tour and World Cup before the next election (I’m not running again so can’t speak longer term than that).

If you are interested, please shoot me a message.

Most of our management correspondence does happen via Discord so it is preferred that assistants are happy to communicate via Discord.

A chance to add a final division 1 title today. A win should do exactly that. 0200 start.

World Cup just around the corner and we look forward to another chance to win the holy grail that has to this point avoided the UAE U20 side. Tune in 1100 Monday - hopefully Sunday next week.

Most of the commentary throughout the week will be via the UAE FTP discord.

In truth a disappointing World Cup effort. Just the two wins and finishing bottom of our group.

That ends my time in charge as I’ll be stepping back from the National manager role after 4 terms (more than 2 years irl). Thank you all for your support and trust over that time. Finishing the tier era div 1 in both formats and a stack of Div 1 titles but ultimately never able to go the distance and win that elusive World Cup.

Game saw us play away against England U20, who opted to bat first in Slow/Cloudy conditions.

Bowling first, we picked up 2 quick wickets in the first 3 overs, before a brisk 63 run partnership for the 3rd wicket put the English in a good position and helped them get to 135/7.
Pick of the bowlers who was also the MOTM as well as our Player of the Day was Atif Kaleel, with economical figures of 4-0-15-2.

The less said about the batting the better, as our batters looked all at sea against the English bowlers and it was only thanks to a pair of 20s from Kaden Fattah and Yusuf Ababneh that we managed to cross the 100 mark, eventually getting to 104/9. Skipper Yusuf Ababneh top scored with an unbeaten 21.

Apologies for not being able to put up a game summary for each game, so here is an overall tour summary encompassing the rest of the games.

Game 2 vs Netherlands U20: UAE U20 won by 8 wickets
Disciplined bowling performance restricted them to 111/9 which was comfortably chased thanks to an unbeaten 73 run partnership for the 3rd wicket.
Keeper Kale Ali was the Player of the Day for 5 catches, 1 stumping, and an unbeaten 42 from 35 balls.

Game 3 vs Bangladesh U20: Bangladesh U20 won by 5 wickets
Heartbreaking loss as they got the winning runs on the final ball of the match.
Player of the Day was Yahir Muttalib for his figures of 4-0-20-2

Game 4 vs England U20: UAE U20 won by 5 wickets
Another comfortable chase thanks to multiple batting contributions.
Player of the Day was Khalil Aliyy for figures of 4-0-22-3

Game 5 vs Netherlands U20: Match tied
Extremely fortunate to walk away with a tie here, as we needed 17 from 2 overs with a bowling AR and a bowler at the crease with only bowlers to follow.
Player of the Day was Khalil Aliyy again with figures of 4-0-16-4

Game 6 vs Bangladesh U20: Bangladesh U20 won by 6 wickets
Under-par batting performance saw us only get to 133/6 which was comfortably chased down.
Player of the Day was top scorer Jawad Abdellah with 59.

We are now at 8th place on the points table, and the top 6 will qualify for the World Cup.
We are up against it with just one more T20 tour to go, but the team will be doing their best to get us to qualification.
