Re: [U20] Announcements
Hi everyone, I'm Brunel (some of you may remember me from my days managing the senior Bangladesh side) but I'm back to help out as assistant for the U20s.
T20 - Division 3 Tour
2nd game vs South Africa on a green pitch with cloudy conditions.
Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bowl.
Fresh from our superb opening day victory we found ourselves taking on South Africa on Day 2, on the same pitch type and weather conditions as we had experienced the day before.
Opting to bowl first again Milon Shazada removed one of the openers with the first ball of the match and that kickstarted a great opening spell whereby we reduced the opposition to 27-3.
South Africa rebuilt slowly and a stellar fifth wicket partnership helped them to a total of 123-5. We again bowled economically with Pal (2-25) and Shazada (2-27) being the pick of the bowlers but we again were a bit sloppy in the field with three drops (we had four yesterday).
In response, the two openers looked very unthreatened and Bishnu Mokammel (55) and Nafees Kabir (42) put on 78 for the first wicket. At that point it looked like we would be able to amble our way to victory but a flurry of late wickets (at one point we lost three wickets for 19 runs) meant the game came down to the final over. Luckily a timely boundary from Miraz Samad was enough to get us over the line and to enjoy a second consecutive win.
Match Ratings

Batting - Top Order 9,721 9,445

3rd game vs New Zealand on a green pitch with windy conditions.
New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl.
K.Reza 28 (12) got Bangladesh off to a flyer with some luck thanks to a dropped catch in the 2nd over. We lost 2 wickets in quick succession halting our progress before M.Samad/I.Argal 77 (71) rallied together to put us in a commanding position come the latter part of the innings. I.Argal 48 (51) fell 2 runs short of his 50 as Bangladesh posted a healthy total of 163/3 off 20 overs, MOTM M.Samad finishing unbeaten on 65* (47)
Back into the fold (F) S.Ashraf struck first ball of the innings. The spinners also got in on the act striking in there 1st overs as NZ struggled to build a foundation reaching 65/4 off 10 overs. N.Evans/H.Larsen 64 (50) gave NZ a glimmer of hope but the task eventually proved to big with 3 calamitous run outs coming in the 19th over ending all hopes of a unlikely victory. N.Evans finishing unbeaten on 55* (41) as NZ posted 152/8 off 20 overs. S.Ashraf 4-0-28-2, I.Azad 4-0-22-1 & R.Sen 4-0-23-0 keeping it tight whilst chipping in with a few wickets.

T20 - Division 3 Tour
4th game vs Zimbabwe on a slow pitch with windy conditions.
Bangladesh lost the toss and were bowling first.
With three wins in a row we went into this game with Zimbabwe knowing that a victory would mean promotion from Division 3 - a feat that had not been achieved for a while. Having been put into bowl first on a deck that suited our three spinners we were a bit surprised when the Zimbabwean batters appeared to ease their way to runs. We struggled to create any real wicket taking chances and the opposition put on 100 for the opening stand, Elias Zia (1-24) eventually getting the breakthrough. We would only take one more wicket and the Zimbabweans would finish on an impressive 156-2. Whilst we did struggle for wickets we did manage the run-rate reasonably well, with Rana Saleh (0-19) proving frugal from his four overs.
In response we began building steadily, putting on a half century stand for the first wicket. We then lost both openers within three overs however, Nafees Kabir (25) falling first before Bishnu Mokammel (31) followed suit, as the Zimbabweans put the pressure back on us. Those wickets saw Ishant Argal arrive at the crease and the right-hander went about pummelling the ball to all corners of the ground, bringing up his fifty in just 29 balls. Still, the other batters found it difficult work and some good Zimbabwe fielding left us needing 11 from the final over.
This was no problem for Argal (63*) as he orchestrated the final over perfectly and a quickly run double off the last ball saw us home, recording a fourth consecutive victory in the process.
Bangladesh win by 7 wickets - PROMOTION SECURED!!!

5th & final game vs Sri Lanka on a Slow pitch with overcast conditions.
Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bowl.
Bangladesh came out to bat knowing a win would secure 1st Position, things didn’t start off too well though as B.Mokammel who has been consistent all tour perished early on. K.Reza/N.Kabir 48 (53) calmed things down before that partnership was broken in the 10th over. Another partnership then materialised between N.Kabir/J.Badhani 62 (52) which placed us in a good position towards the end, only for both batsmen to be dismissed within a few balls of each other. Bangladesh went on to post a score of 133-4 off 20 overs. N.Kabir 48 (49) falling short of his half century.
Sri Lanka didn’t start off their innings in the best of ways, losing 2 wickets in the opening period of play courtesy of a perfectly executed slower ball from M.Shazada in his first over. C.Jagath/A.Manjula 83 (75) put up a good fight as they recovered from the early setbacks, setting up the stage for another close finish. S.Ashraf provided Bangladesh with the crucial breakthrough in the 18th over with 3 wickets falling in 2 overs. Unfortunately, opener C.Jagath 58* (58) couldn’t guide Sri Lanka to victory as they fell short posting a score of 124-5 off 20 overs. S.Ashraf, R.Sen & M.Shazada grabbing a wicket each whilst going for a run a ball practically. B.Sachdev 4-0-14-0 keeping it tight through the middle overs..
Bangladesh win by 9 runs & go 5-0

Post Tour Review:
Well what can I say, unbeaten all tour…clean sweep…5-0….typical there was nothing to play for. Just hoping this isn't the only highlight of my tenure, it’s nice to start off with back to back promotions to Div 2 in both formats but there’s still a huge task ahead. Staying in Div 2 for T20 would be the aim next season. Credit to the batsmen this tour, we went 5 matches without losing more than 4 wickets each game. Some of the games were pretty tight as well. We rated between 165k-170k consistently throughout apart from that last game and I think we should be there or around that mark for the next OD Tour. Possibly 160k.. Average looking squad! 2/3 batsmen light, Fielding is a key department that needs to be worked on & as managers we should try to aim for at least Reliable or above. Primaries are usually fine but sometimes fielding can stop a player from touring.
6 players promote to Seniors before next tour. (M.Samad, B.Mokammel, M.Shazada, R.Saleh, I.Argal & K.Reza)

ODI - Division 2 Tour
1st game vs West Indies on a Uneven pitch with Cloudy conditions.
West Indies won the toss and elected to bowl.
WI got off to a great start dismissing both openers cheaply in the first 4 overs. A.Gani/S.Kamal 63 (90) steadied the innings helping Bangladesh reach 117/3 at drinks. S.Kamal 53 (80) bought up his 50 with a 6 as S.Kamal/J.Badhani 53 (74) added to the runs. J.Badhani/N.Kabir 137 (111) then took charge from the 30th over and continued building on the platform set as they blasted 97 runs from the final 10 overs posting a total of 288/6 off 50 overs. Captain J.Badhani 101 (94) & N.Kabir 59 (55) getting out towards the end.
WI got off to a slow and cautious start, S.Ashraf getting the first breakthrough in the opening period of play. Trying to up the ante, WI started to pick up the pace losing another 2 wickets as they reached 102/3 at drinks break. After a quick breather, our bowlers came out firing on all cylinders as WI collapsed from 102/3 to 133 all out securing a mammoth victory for the home team. Every bowler chipped in with a wicket, R.Binny 8-3-12-3 & M.Pal 7.3-1-14-3 being the picks of the bunch.
Bangladesh win by 155 Runs.

2nd game vs Ireland on a Dry pitch with Cloudy conditions.
Ireland won the toss and elected to bat.
The Irish top order got them off to a decent start with all the batsmen contributing to the scoreboard safely guiding them to 106/3 off 25 overs. Despite striking early after drinks, R.Carroll/H.Long 102 (116) motored along as they both reached 50 putting the Irish into a good position for a late onslaught. 4 wickets fell in 3 overs towards the end as Ireland posted a total off 232/8. E.Zia finishing with figures of 10-0-40-3. 4/8 catching checks passed, 2/3 run-outs & 5/14 fielding checks
In Contrast, Bangladesh’s top order failed miserably with wickets falling far too often putting us in a bad position at drinks with the score on 92/5. Bangladesh’s hope of an unlikely victory rested on A.Gani & K.Badhani shoulders but they too perished not long after the break as we capitulated to 136-10 off 37.4 overs. A.Gani 40 (62) with the only decent contribution from our batsmen. 5/7 catch checks, 1/1 stumpings, 7/10 fielding checks
Bangladesh humbled by the Irish as they won by 96 Runs.

3rd game vs Zimbabwe on a Uneven pitch with Sunny conditions.
Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bowl.
For the 3rd game running our opening batsmen failed to make any sort of impact and immediately placed us on the back foot. MOTM J.Badhani 88 (115) & S.Kamal 60 (88) combined together excellently to stabilise the innings as they put on a 141 run partnership off 184 balls before being dismissed in the 41st and 42nd over. Enough time for some of our middle order batsmen to make a contribution as we posted a score of 240/5 off 50 overs.
Zimbabwe started off at a faster pace with decent contributions coming from their top order and despite being pegged back twice they cruised to drinks with the score at 119-2, 16 runs ahead at this point in the game. Bangladesh got a wicket after the restart but this didn’t deter Zimbabwe, the game looked on course for a nervy finish only for 4 wickets to fall in the space of 5 overs leaving them stranded on 178-7 off 40, requiring a further 63 runs for victory. Bangladesh ran out eventual winners, bowling Zimbabwe out for 218 off 47 overs. M.Pal 10-1-44-3 & R.Sen 10-0-45-3 the pick of the bowlers.
Bangladesh win by 22 Runs.

OD Division 2 Tour
Game 4 of this OD tour saw us take on a Bermuda side who had so far exceeded expectations. This one took place on a Dry pitch, with Sunny conditions.
Bangladesh lost the toss and were bowling first.
We knew a win today would secure an all important survival in Division 2 which was our aim at the beginning of the week. With the sunny weather we had also wanted to bat first but instead found ourselves bowling and looking tor restrict Bermuda to a manageable total.
The Bermudan batters made a measured start but the introduction of spin produced two early wickets. We continued to control the runrate really well given the conditions and managed to keep taking regular wickets, often in clusters, to ensure no batter got fully settled. In the end it was the spinners who did most of the damage with the duo of Satish Jilani (3-26) and Sanjay Kulkarni (3-37) picking up the most wickets as we bowled out Bermuda for 195.
In reply we got off to an absolute flier! Tipu Mortaza (88) and Golam Rahman (53) put on a mammoth 105 runs for the first wicket, with 63 coming off the opening 10 overs. This excellent start meant that we could bat a bit more cautiously for the remainder of the innings. We did lose both three wickets for 15 runs at one stage but in the end the incredible start meant we were able to chase down the total with relative ease, and with just four wickets down.
Bangladesh win by 6 wickets
