The 'bad bowler' issue

Post by casperj » Fri Feb 20, 2026 10:40 am

...strikes again.

Sami is a 21 year old accom/accom medium pacer with avg experience. Took 2/38 bowling entirely against Excep/World Class summary batsmen (i.e. his figures aren't padded by bowling at the tail).

Green pitch, humid weather. Perfect for seamers, especially medium pacers. He was still lucky to get two wickets and go for not too many runs, but it's understandable that the batters would have been cautious.

In the bigger picture, even after Sami's two wickets, the batting team were in what you'd say is a really good position in the conditions, 3/118 in the 26th over. Then Brandt, the finger spinner, took wickets in consecutive overs to derail the innings, eventually finishing with 3/36 off his 10. If I were the opposition, I'd probably be more annoyed with the finger spinner playing such a large role in conditions not conducive to spin bowling at all.
