Yeah, i'd alternate between bat/tech until he's 20. No need to go higher than capable fielding IMO.cricfan wrote:16 years | 22,223 rating | $580 wage (5% discount)

Fielding capable
This guy just popped capable in fielding. Is it wise to switch his training to batting now?

I keep reading 'spares' what does this mean?

Yeah fielding trains slower as they get older, but then so does primaries. I think people's opinions of when to train fielding varies, but you don't want to be training fielding after the age of 23 really because it becomes a lot slower. Try to get a decent amount of fielding training in as a youth (I aim for Reliable if it is a player I'm keeping for my seniors, and maybe Reasonable/Capable if it's a player I'm going to sell).rss1969 wrote:I keep reading 'spares' what does this mean?

Spares is the amount of Rating that isn't accounted for by the skill levels shown on the player. The rating is the total skill of the player, which is made up of the amounts of each skill. However you are only shown a sort of summary 'level' of each skill (e.g. 'Ordinary') but this covers a range of values (e.g. if you get a player with ordinary batting and train him on batting his skill will increase but it'll be a while before he 'pops' to Average batting, so for several weeks he'll show as Ordinary, but he will have increasing batting values each week).
If you sum the skill levels shown for a player (using atrocious = 0, dreadful=1000, poor=2000... etc). You will get to a number. If you compare that to the rating value you'll see how much 'spare' rating is remaining. The higher the spare rating, the more likely it is that a skill will pop sooner after some training.

Ah, ok.
Thanks for that, very helpful............obviously you know there are spares but identifying exactly where those spares will result in a 'pop' is hard to work out.
I can see why people bang on about fielding with the 16 year olds as this seems to have the widest range for growth.
Thanks.

Re: The "How to Train?" topic (part 2)
yeah unfortunately due to it being so late in the season its tuff
If you go keep bat he should get to rel bat/acc tech and keep with rel field and almost cap endo
This will depend on the sublevels on the other skills as I see bat popped recently

What's the best long-term plan for this guy?

23 years | 46,381 rating | $8,681 wage (1% discount)
Right hand batsman | Right arm Finger spin
Talents Gifted (Fielding), Boundary Hitter
Nationality India India
Form reasonable
Fatigue rested
Experience capable
Captaincy ordinary
Skills Summary
Batsman average
Bowler outstanding
Keeper average
Allrounder reasonable
Notes
Skills
Batting poor Endurance reasonable
Bowling outstanding Technique outstanding
Keeping average Power poor
Fielding outstanding
Obviously want to get another level of fielding, but given he's an off-spinner he doesn't need all that much power AFAIK. So should I try and make his batting better? Work on his bowling or fielding to a really high level? Try and get his power working? Something else?

And just Incase you don't know, training slows down after outstandingBrooksie wrote:Ok thanks, I said ex 'from' spec and by 'ex' i meant exceptional but I gather your point about two pops in primaries at 25 being difficult.Smiddie wrote:No you can't get prims from expert expert to spect spect in 1 season. And can you get a player to ex/ex from spec/spec in one season at that age?
