Post Tour Review:
Well, that's another tour concluded and no surprises as Australia take top spot after going undefeated yet again. Bangladesh tried to compete against them but fell short once more, finishing 2nd in the table on 14 points. Despite the gutting loss, we've managed to finish 3rd in the rankings table after starting in Div2. This positioning means we should avoid a clash with Australia in the group stages of the T20 World Cup, at the very least. The team secured wins against the Netherlands, England and UAE, tying with Canada. Another positive from this tour is that when the rankings reset, we'll start in Division 1, making qualification for the following T20 World Cup much easier.

As we move forward from this tour and look at the squad for the rest of the season, including the T20 World Cup, it’s not looking as good as we would have hoped. We are likely to go through a rough patch, if not in the next tour, then definitely during the World Cup at the end of the season. This could impact our performance and make it difficult to maintain the momentum we’ve built.

Thanks to the managers who tirelessly train Bangladeshi talent, without them, it would be impossible to be in the position we’re in. Their dedication and hard work are crucial to our success, and we owe much of our progress to their efforts. If you’re reading this, drop a comment while you’re at it!

1st game vs Australia on a Hard pitch with Humid conditions expected.

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first.

Bangladesh had a fantastic start with the bat as openers M.Aziz and A.Khan put on a solid foundation with a 187-run partnership. Aziz scored 109 off 114 balls, including 7 fours and a six, while Khan contributed 114 off 118 balls, hitting 10 fours and 3 sixes. This strong start was followed by two more crucial partnerships, including a quickfire 86 off 59 balls from I.Mamun. Bangladesh posted a formidable total of 343/4 in their 50 overs.

Australia responded with a fast-paced start, putting on 94 runs in the first 14 overs. Opener E.Page's outstanding innings of 121 off 109 balls and E.Creevey's 89 off 79 balls set the tone for their chase, their 154-run partnership for the 2nd wicket was pivotal. Despite a valiant effort from S.Khuro (3/65), Australia's middle order held their nerve. B.Zemo and B.Hurn saw Australia home, finishing on 344/4 in 49.4 overs, clinching victory by 6 wickets.

2nd game vs UAE on a Dry pitch with Humid conditions expected.

UAE won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Bangladesh had a slow start with their openers failing to make an impact. M.Rana 77 (112) and I.Mamun 36 (47) steadied the innings with a crucial 74-run partnership for the 3rd wicket. The acceleration came from the middle order, with N.Shewag playing a brilliant unbeaten knock of 74 off 57 balls, supported by V. Badhani 42 (33) and I.Hassan 17* (13). This late surge helped Bangladesh post a competitive total of 276/5 in their 50 overs.

In response, UAE started brightly with opener G.Labib anchoring their innings with a well made 87 off 105 balls. The middle order contributed decently, but M.Ablish’s breakthrough in the 39th over, dismissing both set batsmen, turned the game. Ablish ended with figures of 3/58, while S.Samad also took 3/48. UAE could not recover from these setbacks, eventually being bowled out for 244 in 48.1 overs, handing Bangladesh a 32-run victory.

3rd game vs Sri Lanka on a Dry pitch with Sunny conditions expected.

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first.

Despite the early setback, Bangladesh managed to recover well with a strong performance from their captain, I.Zobair, who scored 105 off 114 balls. M.Rana contributed 30 off 42 balls, forming a crucial 83-run partnership with Zobair for the 2nd wicket. However, Bangladesh lost wickets in clusters, especially close to the drinks interval and in the latter half of their innings. S.Samad 28* (30) and S.Khuro 15* (9) added valuable runs for the last wicket, helping Bangladesh post a total of 237/9 in their 50 overs.

In response, Sri Lanka started their innings at a brisk pace, with their top order making decent contributions. However, Bangladesh's S.Samad turned the tide with a remarkable bowling performance, taking 5/27, including both openers. Despite some resistance from Sri Lanka's middle order, they were unable to recover from the frequent loss of wickets and were eventually bowled out for 204 in 45.1 overs. Bangladesh secured a 33 run victory, thanks largely to Samad's outstanding all-round performance.

4th game vs New Zealand on a Dry pitch with Humid conditions expected.

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first.

Bangladesh struggled to build significant partnerships, with none of their batsmen managing to convert their starts except for N.Shewag 34 (58) and A.Haider 44 (62). Wickets fell at regular intervals, and despite some resistance from N.Samad 36 (44) the team could only muster 193 runs in 49.2 overs. New Zealand's bowlers, particularly J.Jose 4/39 and S.Gloury with 3/42, kept the pressure on throughout the innings.

In response, New Zealand had a shaky start, losing 4 wickets for just 59 runs by the 17th over. However, wicket keeper C.Holland steadied the ship with a composed 85* (103), supported by captain W.Tupaea 54* (85). Their unbeaten partnership guided New Zealand to a comfortable victory, reaching the target of 194 with 3.3 overs to spare, earning them a well deserved 6 wicket win.

Final game vs Canada on a Hard pitch with Humid conditions expected.

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first.

Bangladesh started their innings on a strong note and continued to build on that foundation throughout, with significant contributions from both the top and middle order. The openers set the tone with M.Aziz scoring 57 (52) & A.Khan 44 (45). The middle order maintained the momentum, led by captain I.Mamun's stellar 96 (77) & a brisk 60 (53) from I.Hassan. Late contributions from A.Haider 31* (24) & S.Reddy 31* (17) further boosted the total, helping Bangladesh post a formidable 359/6 in 50 overs.

In reply, Canada's innings faltered early, with wickets falling at regular intervals. H.Cohen 75 (89) & A.Shields 58 (66) offered some resistance, but the rest of the batting lineup failed to make significant contributions. Bangladesh's bowlers were in fine form, with M.Ablish leading the attack with 4/34. The rest of the bowlers also chipped in with crucial wickets, wrapping up Canada’s innings for 226 in 43.1 overs, securing a comprehensive 133 run victory for Bangladesh.

MOTM: Captain I.Mamun 96 (77) & 1 run out.

1st vs Zimbabwe on a Uneven pitch with Sunny conditions expected.

Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Bangladesh struggled to get going initially as Zimbabwe's bowlers capitalised on the uneven pitch. T.Mguni was particularly effective, taking 2/14. N.Samad provided some much needed resistance with a brisk 42 (32), along with contributions from I.Mamun 22 (21) and A.Haider 19* (14) helped Bangladesh post a modest total of 132/5 off 20 overs. Despite their efforts, Zimbabwe's disciplined bowling ensured that Bangladesh couldn’t build a substantial innings.

Chasing 133, Zimbabwe faced early setbacks, losing wickets at regular intervals. However, a steady and composed innings from captain P.Cameron, who scored an unbeaten 50* (39), anchored their chase. W.van der Merwe supported him well with a quick 35 (25), ensuring Zimbabwe reached the target with 5 wickets in hand and 5 balls to spare. S.Khuro was the standout bowler for Bangladesh, taking 2/22, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Zimbabwe from clinching the win.

2nd game vs New Zealand on a Uneven pitch with Cloudy conditions expected.

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Bangladesh experienced another lacklustre performance with the bat. After a steady start, their innings began to fall apart following the fall of the 3rd wicket. New Zealand's bowlers tightened their grip, taking crucial wickets and restricting Bangladesh to an under-par total of 118 for 6 in 20 overs. Despite a valiant effort from captain I.Mamun, who scored an unbeaten 45 (38), Bangladesh couldn't build substantial partnerships to challenge the opposition bowlers.

In reply, New Zealand lost an early wicket but quickly regained control of the chase. R.Crotty starred with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 72 (59). His commanding performance, supported by contributions from the top order, ensured that New Zealand made light work of the target. They reached 121 for 2 in just 16.5 overs, securing a comfortable victory.

MOTM: R.Crotty 72 (59)
