Keeps the pressure on Bathaloner at the top, although today was the most likely match for them to slip up in and they got throiugh it. Also first run out for my new keeper - 22 from 11 balls, 2 catches and a stumping with no missed chances, so a good start to his sidekicks career!

Leyland Lions vs The Raging Speed Horns
League Youth 2.1

Weather Hot
Pitch Green

Tough nut to crack today as we travel to joint-top club Leyland Lions. We won the toss and plonked them in to bat, and they proceeded to compile an efficiently made 217-6 off their 40 overs. Green was always going to be a challenge for my spin-heavy attack, but all-in-all it could have been a lot worse.

Within three overs, their LF had removed our two openers. As mentioned in previous posts, they are basically sacrificial lambs, so I'm not too perturbed about that. Let's just keep our fingers crossed that Kentish and Loveless settle in for the long term. So far so good -

J. McBride (lm) 1-0-9-0, C. Kentish 22 (28b), L. Loveless 21 (18b)
End of over 10 (9 runs) - The Raging Speed Horns(53-2). 165 runs required from 30 overs. RR 5.30 RRR 5.50

addendum : hmmm - I don't think this guy bothers with fitness - two of their players are tired already - one is their demon LF... :think

Well, this is excellent stuff -

B. Tikoto (rm) 2-0-13-0, L. Loveless 62 (50b), C. Kentish 45 (56b)
End of over 20 (4 runs) - The Raging Speed Horns(118-2). 100 runs required from 20 overs. RR 5.90 RRR 5.00

My boys are starting to pepper the boundaries now, and with a shed-load of batting left, we should be okay. The only threat I can see is a refreshed Scott (LF) returning after drinks while my boys are being expansive!

A slight hiccup around the 28-29 over mark, with a couple of quick wickets falling, but Loveless stayed solid, bagging himself a century and steering us to victory with 3 overs to spare -

End of over 37 (3 runs) - The Raging Speed Horns(218-4) RR 5.89
L. Loveless 121 (112b), R. McSpank 21 (19b), A. Lee (rm) 6.4-0-42-0

The Raging Speed Horns won by 6 wickets

Macrow scored 83 on a dry pitch. Niazi finished with 4-49.

It was slightly more nervous than I was expecting considering at one point they were 161-8 when chasing 224.

Pedagogs vs The Raging Speed Horns
League One Day 1.1

Weather Humid
Pitch Hard

Big match day sees us at Pedagogs CG this week. The opposition have prepared a hard track and the humid weather suggests there'll be something in it for the pacemen - with that in mind, Saxon (RF) steps in for Baldwin (RFS). Although wary of including Saxon in these bigger matches - he is only spectacular summary; two to three levels below the four other bowlers - he does bring variation to the attack, and by golly, he desperately needs the xp! And to be fair to him, he's proved his worth in all his starts, sporting a healthy average of 22.69.

Well, we won the toss and decided to bowl. After 15 overs, Pedagogs stand at -

V. Saxon (rf)
3-0-13-1, P. Kulangatissa 0 (0b), T. Sheehan 23 (34b)
End of over 15 (4 runs) - Pedagogs(70-2) RR 4.67

A wicket apiece for Saxon (RF) and Speed (LF) keeps it interesting (Speed's yorker talent seems to be firing a lot these days too, so :thumbsup ) ...

35 overs -

S. Ravana (rfs) 10-0-82-0, P. Kulangatissa 54 (56b), T. Sheehan 99 (99b)
End of over 35 (14 runs) - Pedagogs(205-2) RR 5.86

- Ravana got crucified, and that score is starting to look ominous. Need a breakthrough soon or this is going to run away from us!

EDIT :  The cricket gods must have been listening - as I type - two quick wickets even it up at -

End of over 38 (3 runs) - Pedagogs(220-4) RR 5.79

They batted out their overs to end on -

End of over 50 (8 runs) - Pedagogs(313-9) RR 6.26

I think that's a reasonable, if not formidable total. Barring batting ballsups, we should chase that down.

Result: Pedagogs won by 85 runs

Well that all went south rather rapidly - I wouldn't have minded but we got blown away by a finger spinner

Their RFS, Miranda (sounds like a ship) destroyed our middle order and finished with a very impressive 4-40. No idea what was going on there but what can ya do? Especially since our RFS got murdered with 0-82.

Ah well, there's a bit of consolation in Egham Town losing to Relegation Reprobates, which keeps it interesting at the top -

1 The Raging Speed Horns    28  +0.2588
2 Relegation reprobates     26  +0.0731
3 Egham Town CC        24  +0.5689

The numbers -

Ruff Royals won by 2 wickets

Even pitch and they scored 282. It was disappointing as we dropped several chances. Combs was great (5-36) and Westerveld also picked up important wickets although he was very expensive (3-69).

We were in a lot of trouble at 3-29 but House scored 52, Laurence 62 and Dennehy was brilliant for his 127. We lost wickets a bit easily towards the end but managed to win with a couple of overs to spare.

We're still 4 points behind Goondiwindi.

Opponent played a weakened side despite being threatened with relegation, so won easily. Very rare occurrence of playing 2 all rounders and both of them getting into double figures with the bat. Normally at least one gets out for a low score!
Visiting the leaders next week, will need a win to keep any small chance of promotion alive!

A good bowling effort and they were all out for 102 on an uneven pitch. I felt we were a little slow with the bat but we still finished with just under 4 overs to spare. Howe top scored with 42 not out.

8 points clear at the top with 3 games to go but I'll have players away for international duty next time so that will be tough.

St. Marks Hill Strollers vs The Raging Speed Horns
League Youth Twenty20 2.2

Weather Humid
Pitch Hard

Was out today so didn't watch the game (thankfully) -

Result: St. Marks Hill Strollers won by 11 runs

Strollers scored 202-3 off their 20; we managed 191-8. Stand-out player for us was Loveless, scoring 74 off 40 balls to add to Thursdays 121no - that fella is on fire. Unfortunately our team folded to a 17yo LF, Lewis, who bagged 5-25 to take MoM. Strollers can be well pleased with that win.
