Thanks for arranging all these competitions. It appears that my team (Donna's Kebabs) can't enter as we "are already in a competition" with the same dates.

As I have no other comps (except the seniors on Sat), presumably this results from the entry in the main youth competition (even though we were knocked out in round 1).

Strange.

My fault, I think you have to wait until the draw for the second round is done and then you're "officially" no longer in the cup. I sent out the message before the changeover because it goes to both winners and losers.

I take that back, the plate is for Division 3 & 4 teams who didn't make the cut for the cup and Division 3 & 4 teams knocked out in the first round. This is to provide something competitive for lower ranked sides. Apologies but the Kebabs are overqualified for the Senior Plate, unless you were talking about the Junior Plate when my previous answer applies.

Sorry again, I got confused because of the heading for the thread and then didn't fully engage my brain. Your youth team is eligible to enter the Youth Plate.

The second round of the Cup has been done so I believe from what happened last season that you should now be able to accept. I have just tried and got the same message; I also tried refreshing the page and clearing my cache - neither worked. It may simply be a matter of timing so being patient and trying again later but I have raised a support request to see if they can help. It definitely worked last season.

I think once it finalises in the next day or so it should be ok,

If not give me the team_id for each team and I can sort it out from there.

Regards GM-crowfan65

Please try again tomorrow and the next day if needed but don't panic I will pass the details of eligible teams to GM-crowfan65 to get sorted. Crackit

First Round
Note: Rankings used are as of the start of the season.

Draw
Insane Inglewood Posse (53) v Rocket City Trash Pandas (63) [Senior Rivalry: 0-0]
Blwe Scavengerz (48) v Babylon5 (76) [Senior Rivalry: 8-2]
Hammers CC (49) v Q Dragon Empire (54) [Senior Rivalry: 0-0]
Aripal Qalandars (68) v Zeugma Ferrets (72) [Senior Rivalry: 0-0]
St Johns Athletic (67) v Belmont CC (51) [Senior Rivalry: 0-0]
Crzy Tornadoes (65) v Chester Ducks (58) [Senior Rivalry: 0-0]
Xessux Club (64) v Western Suburbs Hacks (47) [Senior Rivalry: 0-8]
FPCC Ireland (66) v Dublin Devils (59) [Senior Rivalry: 0-0]

Selected highlights
Unfortunately, like the Youth Plate, we didn't get enough acceptances for the full 32 draw but hopefully it will still be open and competitive.

Apologies, to anyone left disappointed but maybe we can get the two Cups up to 64 acceptances and the two Plates up to 32. It will cost me more but it would support my three aims in organising them. That the cups and plate competitions:
  • Are representative of the whole league setup and so strong and competitive.
  • Help build a strong Irish league community that also helps support the National Team by promoting academy pulls (but that will neither be mandatory or enforced).
  • To add a bit of interest and fun, in part by achieving the first two.

At the end of the season please let me know:
  • Whether you like the idea, aims and execution; so is it worth my effort?
  • Whether you think these are being achieved to any extent; so am I doing it right?
  • Whether there is some way you might promote or support it; so are you willing and able to help in any way?

Back to the Senior Plate... also like the Youth Plate, this competition is all about new rivalries; only two matchups have met before and both games involve one the two highest ranked sides in it.

Xessux Club (64) v Western Suburbs Hacks (47)
Blwe Scavengerz (48) v Babylon5 (76)
FPCC Ireland (66) v Dublin Devils (59)
Crzy Tornadoes (65) v Chester Ducks (58)

The Hacks from the Western Suburbs made the final last year and the Scavengerz were quarter-finalists and these two teams look the most likely finalists this year. FPCC Ireland and Chester Ducks are two other teams that progressed beyond last year's first round.

Aripal Qalandars (68) v Zeugma Ferrets (72)
Hammers CC (49) v Q Dragon Empire (54)

Although invited, none of this year's new joiners who accepted made the cut to get in the draw (soory guys). However, we have two teams who joined last season (the Q Dragon and the Ferrets - sounds like a good band) and the Hammers who joined the season before; hopefully the Plate provides an opportunity to make them feel welcome and a part of the setup.

That's pretty much the whole draw and hopefully gives you a feel for the range of competitors this year.

Welcome to relative newbies and good luck to everyone involved.

Results
Insane Inglewood Posse 92-2 (8.1) v Rocket City Trash Pandas 91-6 (20)
Blwe Scavengerz 175-2 (17) v Babylon5 174-6 (20)
Hammers CC 140-0 (12.3) v Q Dragon Empire 136-6 (20)
Aripal Qalandars 244-3 (20) v Zeugma Ferrets 140-7 (20)

Western Suburbs Hacks, Blwe Scavengerz and Chester Dicks progressed as predicted, but not FPCC Ireland. Hammers CC are the only relative newcomer to progress, but look strong.

A quick summary
Not quite in a word.
  • Whoosh! Insane Inglewood Posse chase down Rocket City Trash Pandas' total in 49 balls.
  • Staying Power. Babylon5 fade badly after the third wicket falls, whereas Blwe Scavengerz stay strong.
  • Unbroken. Robert Duminy and Marcell Perrin share an opening stand of 140 as Hammers CC see off the Q Dragon Empire.
  • Comfortable. Adriaan Pierneef (104*) led Aripal Qalandars to an easy win over Zeugma Ferrets.
  • Exhausted. St Johns Athletic tracked Belmont's run rate well enough, but ran out of batters. R. Haymes (101*) and Cole Watkins (4-20) and Shahenn Taher (3-10) star for Belmont.
  • Blown away. Sunil Binny (4-27) and Nick Carleton (3-19) flattened the Tornadoes' batters then Jans Beerens (61*) and Dandy Fenton (40) finished off the job for the Ducks.
  • X*****x! Swinbourne Nagel (100*) and Ismael Jafar (96) did the job for the Hacks whereas the Xessux boys couldn't respond.
  • Job well done. Bart Blain (82*) and Garfield Baynes (65) then Hana Rashid (3-27) steer the Devils past solid opposition in FPCC: Lachie Hilton (66*); James Bradanovich (3-31).

Quarter Finals
Note: Rankings used are as of the start of the season.

Draw
Insane Inglewood Posse (53) v Blwe Scavengerz (48) [Senior Rivalry: 1-3]
Hammers CC (49) v Aripal Qalandars (68) [Senior Rivalry: 0-0]
Belmont CC (51) v Chester Ducks (58) [Senior Rivalry: 0-0]
Western Suburbs Hacks (47) v Dublin Devils (59) [Senior Rivalry: 2-0]

Selected highlights
Insane Inglewood Posse (53) v Blwe Scavengerz (48)
This game looks tight, whereas the others do not.

Hammers CC have emerged from the first round looking like the strongest team in the competition.

Belmont CC and Western Suburbs Hacks (runner up last season) look like a close semi-final in the offing, but we'll see.

A bit of a harsh summary, lets hope the games provide more tension and surprises than expected (you're right, it wouldn't be a surprise if we expected it).

Results
Insane Inglewood Posse 117-5 (20) v Blwe Scavengerz 123-4 (20)
Hammers CC 82-0 (8.3) v Aripal Qalandars 81-10 (20)
Belmont CC 215-5 (20) v Chester Ducks 165-4 (20)
Western Suburbs Hacks 84-1 (14.4) v Dublin Devils 83-7 (20)

A quick summary
Not quite in a word.
  • Tantalising. Scavengerz's four over burst of 42 runs from Alex Blackwell (55) and Jean-Paul de Vrij (35*) proves enough to keep them out of the Posse's reach.
  • I'm spinning around: Wristy Wasantha Kumarasooriya stars for the Hammers taking 5 Qalandars wickets for 12 runs.
  • Not fine and Dandy! Keeper Fenton's undefeated 71 is not enough for the Ducks to chase down Belmont's 215. Cole Watkins' 3-23 provided most of the containment.
  • Drought. There was a dearth of runs in Dublin's fair city. Sugath Rushdy 3-10 was the best Hacks bowler as they held Dublin to 83 on a devilishly sticky wicket.
Leaders
Silver pads, for most runs scored by a batter:
  • 135 - Swinbourne Nagel (Western Suburbs Hacks)
  • 130 - Ismael Jafar (Western Suburbs Hacks)
  • 125 - Adriaan Pierneef (Aripal Qalandars)
  • 117 - Reece Haymes (Belmont CC)
  • 113 - Marcell Perrin (Hammers CC)
Silver cap, for most wickets taken by a bowler:
  • 8-29 Wasantha Kumarasooriya (rws, Hammers CC)
  • 7-43 Cole Watkins (rf, Belmont CC)
  • 6-67 Sunil Binny (rfs, Chester Ducks)
  • 4-46 Simon Drummond (lfm, Blwe Scavengerz)
  • 4-39 Sugath Rushdy (rm, Western Suburbs Hacks)
Silver gloves, for most dismissals involving the keeper:
  • 3 (3c,0st) - Dandy Fenton (Chester Ducks)
  • 3 (2c, 1st) - Jake Gladman (Hammers CC)
  • 3 (2c, 1st) - Makin Kardal (Dublin Devils)
  • 2 (2c, 0st) - Christopher Donaghy (Zeugma Ferrets)
  • 2 (2c, 0st) - Milton Woodard (Western Suburbs Hacks)
  • 2 (2c, 0st) - Ismael Jafar (St Johns Athletic)

Semi Finals
Note: Rankings used are as of the start of the season.

Draw
Blwe Scavengerz (48) v Hammers CC (49) [Senior Rivalry: 0-0]
Belmont CC (51) v Western Suburbs Hacks (47) [Senior Rivalry: 0-2]

Selected highlights
Note: Written on Saturday before the games started.
Belmont CC (51) v Western Suburbs Hacks (47)
"Belmont CC and Western Suburbs Hacks (runner up last season) look like a close semi-final in the offing"; same as last time, this game looks tight, whereas the other does not.

Blwe Scavengerz (48) v Hammers CC (49)
The Scavengerz have advanced one round farther than last season. They may well have to be happy with that as the Hammers CC have emerged from the first two rounds looking like the strongest team in the competition. The Hammers are my pick to go all the way (but we all know accurate my predictions are! Sorry hamsterj1312)

Results
# 48 Blwe Scavengerz (One Day 3.2) v #49 Hammers CC (One Day 3.1)
[Youth Rivalry: 0-0]

Result: Belmont CC won by 7 wickets
Man of the match: Reece Haymes

A quick summary
Not quite in a word.
  • Unstuck: That's what happened to the Scavengerz from 4th over onwards, as the Hammers bowlers surgical separated the batters from their innings.
  • A hair's breadth: There really wasn't much between these division rivals, Belmont and WSH, going in. There was even less when it was all over; just the single taken off the final available ball of the innings.
Leaders
Silver pads, for most runs scored by a batter:
  • 202 - Reece Haymes (Belmont CC)
  • 201 - Swinbourne Nagel (Western Suburbs Hacks)
  • 169 - Marcell Perrin (Hammers CC)
  • 164 - Robert Duminy (Hammers CC)

[The Final
Note: Rankings used are as of the start of the season.

Draw
Hammers CC (49) v Belmont CC (51) [Senior Rivalry: 0-0

Preview
Year end and current rankings for Belmont CC (OD: 41; T20: 32) v Hammers CC (OD: 30; T20: 42) suggest it should be a close game.

Their Road to the Final
#49 Hammers CC (One Day 3.1)
The Hammers have plenty of batting options given their One Day and T20 line-ups are quite different where Hasnain Mahmood is the principal common factor. However in the Plate most of the runs have come from openers Robert Duminy and skip Marcell Perrin because of the two ten wicket victories. All members of the bowling attack have taken wickets with wrist spinner, Wasantha Kumarasooriya, doing most damage with ten. The Hammers pose offer a daunting prospect going into the final.

Round One v #54 Q Dragon Empire (One Day 3.3), won by 10 wickets
  • QDE: 136-6 (20); H: 140-0 (12.3)
  • MOTM: Marcell Perrin (86* and one catch)
Quarter Final v #68 Aripal Qalandars (One Day 3.2), won by 10 wickets
  • AQ: 81-10 (20); H: 82-0 (8.3)
  • MOTM: Wasantha Kumarasooriya (rws, 5-12 and one catch)
Semi Final v #48 Blwe Scavengerz (One Day 3.2), won by 69 runs
  • H: 166-4 (20); BS: 97-10 (19.3)
  • MOTM: Greg Bachan (lm, 4-20)
#51 Belmont CC (One Day 3.2)
Opener Reece Haymes has produced two big innings and captain Lynden Giampaolo has provided most support in the Plate. Ross Snooke and Jesus Snyder have had the most productive bats in the league this season. Belmont have used seven bowlers in the competition but their pace attack of Cole Watkins (8) and part-time allrounder Shaheen Taher (5) taking most wickets. Spinner Johnstone Cheserem can offer an effective alternative but was dropped for the semi-final due to the green pitch so might be missing for the final.

Round One v #67 St Johns Athletic (One Day 4.1), won by 58 runs
  • B: 201-2 (20); SJA: 143-10 (14.4)
  • MOTM: Reece Haymes (101 not out and one catch)
Quarter Final v #58 Chester Ducks (One Day 3.3), won by 50 runs
  • B: 215-5 (20); CD: 165-4 (20)
  • MOTM: Cole Watkins (rf, 3-23)
Semi Final v #47 Western Suburbs Hacks (One Day 3.4), won by 7 wickets
  • WSH: 178-7 (20); B: 179-3 (20)
  • MOTM: Reece Haymes (85)
Our prediction: And I quote "Hammers CC have emerged from the first round looking like the strongest team in the competition." and "the Hammers CC have emerged from the first two rounds looking like the strongest team in the competition. The Hammers are my pick to go all the way (but we all know accurate my predictions are! Sorry hamsterj1312)". I am not going to change my opinion now.

Results
#49 Hammers CC (One Day 3.1) v 51 Belmont CC (One Day 3.2)
[Senior Rivalry: 0-0]
Weather: Cloudy; Pitch: Green
Toss: Belmont CC won the toss and elected to bat.
Innings 1: Belmont CC 143-4 (20)
R. Haymes (64*), C. Upashantha (30*); A. Ranasinghe (lfm, 2-27)

Reece Haymes complied his third big innings of the Plate, holding down one end as Snyder, Park and finally Upashantha kept the scoreboard ticking for the most part. However they were really contained in two over spells (3-4 and 14-15). Ajith Ranasinghe in particular was tidy, economical and took two wickets for the Hammers.

Innings 2: Hammers CC 144-6 (18.2)
M. Darling (73*), J. Gladman (30); C. Watkins (rf, 2-27)

Belmont had a breakthrough in the first over courtesy of Cole Watkins who took the wicket of both openers. Two further wickets left the Hammers on 35-4 after 5.1 overs but still ahead of the comparison. A quick 25 run partnership off 20 balls by Pardon / Darling kept them that way. However, when Martin Darling and keeper Jake Gladman came together they put together the highest scoring partnership of the day (69 runs off 53 balls) steering the Hammers most of the way home before Gladman fell in 18th over. Darling then took charge hitting 14 of 15 runs needed for victory with a comfortable ten balls to spare.

Result: Hammers CC won by 4 wickets
Man of the match: Martin Darling

Not quite the fireworks of the Junior Plate final but nevertheless a competitive match; congratulations to both hamsterj1312 and Paddythereddog who both win an award of Pavilion membership.

That's it for another season, thanks for taking part and sticking with these updates, we look forward to meeting you all and hopefully some more of our Irish League counterparts next time round. Please spread the word if you can.
