Not worth it unless you have lots of spare cash and are in the top leagues. He's a great player but that's a lot to spend on one player.Bourbonpoker wrote: ↑Tue Aug 12, 2025 6:57 pmInteresting in thoughts on this transfer fee. Thinking about a bid butpricey

Hi All
Can anyone give an idea of how much better the level of academies perform? I suppose what I’m asking is if it’s worth spending thousands on it?

How is the overall rating calculated?
The Tonkers The Elite
Batting - Top Order 15,281 15,395
Batting - Middle Order 13,846 12,931
Batting - Tail 5,978 6,127
Bowling - Seam 14,269 (30) 15,094 (40)
Bowling - Spin 14,636 (20) 15,165 (10)
Fielding/Keeping 17,843 17,832
Overall 260,051 260,728
Is there too much influence by the number 8 bat?

The top order is the top 4 bats, middle order is the next 4, Tail is the bottom 3.
Each player has a skill summery which takes their batting skill and then modifies it by their tech, power, form, fatigue and experience to produce the summary skill. The game then takes these summary skills for each of the players in the groups above (1-4, 5-8, 9-11) and averages them to produce the rating for that particular group.
If your question about the No.8 was "can you artificially skew the ratings by putting a really great bat at 8?" then yes you can, but that doesn't mean the rest of that group will perform better.

Re: Open Forum (Ask GMs)
I'm not real clued up with total match ratings but my understanding is that the skills required for each category are totaled and then averaged out by the number of players in that category giving an average skills score per player. Having bowlers who are also good batsmen will inflate the match ratings which makes the side appear a lot stronger even if those bowlers don't bat. Having all-rounders can help get TMR up but it may leave you a bit lacking in attack through your bowlers. Match ratings are more of a guide for tracking and plotting your teams development than analyzing a game or your opponent.

Re: Open Forum (Ask GMs)
It's more that the match ratings is a guide to who came in with a better team and the skills of the number 8 batsmen seems to be distorting the ratings unrealistically. Like when teams play 4 or 5 all rounders instead of 1 all rounder and 4 bowlers.RO8525 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 06, 2025 8:24 amFirstly I'm not a GM so hopefully someone will correct me where I'm wrong (usually happensJacko wrote: ↑Fri Sep 05, 2025 3:32 amHow is the overall rating calculated?

Is there too much influence by the number 8 bat?). Secondly I'm not sure what you mean by "Is there too much influence by the number 8 bat?" but here is my understanding of how the ratings work:
The top order is the top 4 bats, middle order is the next 4, Tail is the bottom 3.
Each player has a skill summery which takes their batting skill and then modifies it by their tech, power, form, fatigue and experience to produce the summary skill. In my example you look at the overall rating and it would suggest the outcome should be close but if you look at the breakdown I had clearly the better bowlers and a better top 4 (probably a better top 7 bats)
I think the top order should be 1-3, middle order 4-7 and tail 8-11 and the contribution to the overall rating should be reduced for the lower order

I think too many people ignore the part in the manual that says the ratings are not an indication of who should win or lose but more for a guide for comparing line ups. Yes 10 or 11 bats will likely attract higher match ratings even though the bowlers ratings would be less than usual. But you only benefit from those batting points if they all bat. No use rating 12000 on the tail if they don’t get to bat. The ratings are a skill assessment before the match. Tactics, pitch, weather, and luck have a significant impact on how the game plays out and as the manual suggests the lower rated side can come out on top on any given day.

Don't you think it would be more useful for comparing lineups if it more closely aligned with how the match ratings would influence the match?boscorp wrote: ↑Fri Sep 12, 2025 10:33 amI think too many people ignore the part in the manual that says the ratings are not an indication of who should win or lose but more for a guide for comparing line ups. Eg. are their middle order match ratings high because their number 5 and 6 bats are really good or is it just because they're playing 2 all rounders

In a way, I think no. It's give you a clue but then you can do some scouting and put the puzzle together.Jacko wrote: ↑Mon Sep 15, 2025 12:22 am

No mate. Winner promotes, everyone else stays in that div next season; There's a thing called the bot flush at the EoS that ensures all the bot teams are moved into the lower divs so you may see human teams getting "promoted" who didn't win their league but ordinarily it's just the winner of each league who goes up.
